WHAT CAN A LITTLE GOSPEL TRACT DO?

Every Wednesday afternoon, FEBC students go out distributing gospel tracts. One of these tracts, although thrown away by the original recipient, caught the attention of a passer-by who picked it up. She read its contents and was moved to contact the church to seek an answer for a question which troubled her. She managed to reach our sister Wendy. Wendy was able to counsel her and invite her to RELC on February 21, Friday night. Here’s Wendy’s testimony of what happened.

A Gospel Tract Picked Up from the Floor

Wendy Teng

Thank God for a lady China National who picked up a tract from the floor in Toa Payoh on February 19 and called up the church the next day on Thursday morning. She told me she is troubled as she had dreamt of her friend (non-believer) who recently passed away in China due to an accident. Her friends advised her to burn some incense, etc. to this friend who has passed away. She was troubled and did not know what to do and was thinking about it when she saw the tract. She said she believes this is the answer from the Lord to show her what to do. Thank God she called us. I shared with her that as Christians, we do not worship the dead, etc. She told me she is only a Christian in name and does not know many things. Thank God for her desire to seek the truth. As she was working, she could not talk for long. She is also working on Sundays and cannot go to church. I invited her to our prayer meeting instead as she happened to be available the next day. She said she sells beauty products and her day off is not fixed. She has been working in Singapore for two years already. Thank God she is willing to come but does not understand English. I told her we have China students in our midst with whom she could befriend. She is happy to hear that.

Thank God she came to RELC the next day, Friday (Feb 21). I was very encouraged by her perseverance to come and I believe it was the Lord moving her to come. On Friday evening, she called me at about 6.15 pm and asked if her husband could come along. Then she told me that they would come on their own and I need not meet her in Toa Payoh. After telling her husband the direction, I arranged to meet them at the bus stop at 7.30 pm to bring them to RELC. However, when they boarded Bus 105, the driver told them he did not know where RELC is, so they alighted and did not take the bus. The husband called me again. As they knew I was waiting for them, and it was running late, they decided to take a taxi instead. They asked me to help them tell the taxi driver where RELC is. I was so glad they were so determined to come and even took a taxi to RELC.

That night, they reached RELC at about 8 pm. Jianwei, Shanshan and Sufang were with me to reach out to them. Initially, I asked them to join us for prayer meeting first and to talk after prayer meeting. But she preferred to get to know us first. So, we sat at the lobby and shared with them the gospel. Thankfully, she was very open to us and we talked until 9.30 pm!

She is from China and her husband is Malaysian and a non-believer. She told us she has a son. We shared with her from the Bible. It was like having a Bible study. Both of them were willing to let us open with prayer and we also closed the time in prayer. She also asked us to pray for her. Thank God I bought a Chinese Bible for her as she told me she has no Bible. She was happy to have the Bible and started reading from it as we shared with her what it said. Through the sharing, we realised that she is a backslided Christian. She believes she is a sinner and has accepted Christ as her Saviour since young. She told us her family were all Christians and that she used to go to church and served in the church. She confessed she has neglected the Lord and has strayed from Him. During this period of fear when her native friend passed away, she started to seek the Lord and wanted to go to a church to find out what she should do. So, when she saw the tract on the floor outside McDonald’s in Braddell, she told us she quickly picked it up. That was on Wednesday and she called up the church on Thursday morning on her way to work.

She was happy the Lord has led her to us and thanked us for our sharings. We challenged her to put the Lord first and pray for a new job so that she could come back to the Lord and come to church. She promised she will pray and try to come back to the Lord. She told us that on March 9 (Sunday), her company has organised a function and she is not required to work that day. She hopes to be able to come to church on March 9. We pray that the company function will not clash with the church service and she and her husband can come to church on March 9. Thank God also for the opportunity to share the gospel with her husband and I have given him a Bible as well. Pray that he will come to believe in Christ and be saved.

Thank God for her receptiveness to God’s Word and her desire to come back to the Lord. May the Lord have mercy on her and help her. Pray that she will resolve to come back and not go back to her old ways again after hearing from us. She told me she will keep in touch with me. Thank God for the opportunity to share with them.

GOSPEL WORK IN PHNOM PENH

Dear Rev Dr Jeffrey Khoo,

Greetings to you and True Life Bible-Presbyterian Church in the Name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you all. Hope and pray that all of you are doing well. We are doing fine by the grace of God too.

We give thanks and praises to our Triune God for His love, grace and mercy towards us daily. Thank you for praying for His work in Cambodia. The Lord has been so good to us. In this New Year, He has opened several doors for us to labour for His Vineyard in soul winning.

Almost every evening, by the grace and mercies of God, we can reach out to people who come to the park for relaxation and exercise. At least, we can share the Good News to a few each time we go there. We usually give the gospel tracts, but now we try to spend time to share the Word of God with them. We do not have much result through this work but we believe that the pure Word of God through the help of the Holy Spirit may convict and convert their souls to the saving knowledge of our Risen Lord Jesus Christ.

Another opportunity that the Lord has given to us is to teach seven Dentist University students every Friday at 4:00-5:00 pm. One of them is a believer already but the other six are not yet born again. This is one of the more difficult ministries because these students are well educated, some are in their senior years in University. Please pray for the wisdom of God to lead them to Christ.

Another door that the Lord has opened for us is to start a new outreach about 10-12 km from the city centre. This place is called Areyaksat. We were there in early 2013 and prayed whether the Lord wants us to start a work there or not. We went there a few more times this year. Then the Lord put a strong burden in my heart to evangelise and share the love of God with the adults and children there. And finally, the Lord has opened a villager’s home for us to reach out to children and youths. My wife and I go there twice a week, Thursday and Sunday afternoons. Last Thursday after finishing our teaching on the way back home, we visited another village. The people there asked us to come and teach their children too. It reminds me of Paul’s vision from God in Acts 16:9, “And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.” We told them to let us pray and see, and to meet again this coming Sunday afternoon after our teaching ministry in another village.

We really thank the Lord for many doors that the Lord has opened for us. Luke 10:2, “Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.” Please pray for wisdom and strength that we are able to do our best for our Master.

We never forget your love and prayers for my studies, my wife’s health and ministry. We too keep praying for all of you. May the Lord continue to bless True Life B-P Church and FEBC to stand firm preaching and teaching the pure Word of Life and train many more faithful servants of the Lord to evangelise, teach and preach the whole counsel of God till He comes.

Your unworthy steward in Christ,

Sun Sokha
