TRUE LIFE BPC Ministries
Worship Service
The Church is blessed by the Lord with steady attendance in its worship services as well as prayer meetings, Sunday School and fellowship groups. Average attendance at each Lord’s Day worship service is about 470, including children.
The Church holds its Worship Service every Lord’s Day, 10.30 am at the Regional Language Centre (RELC), 30 Orange Grove Road, Singapore 258352. The pulpit is jealously guarded, with only preachers of the same doctrinal persuasion, i.e. of the Reformed Faith, taking a stand for biblical separation and standing squarely on the perfect inspiration and perfect preservation of Scripture, are invited to preach the Word. Besides Pastor Jeffrey Khoo, our preachers include Rev Stephen Khoo, Rev Errol Stone, Rev Dr Koa Keng Woo, Rev Kiantoro Lie, Pr Joshua Yong, Pr Dennis Kabingue, Pr Clement Chew and Dr Jose Lagapa.
The Chinese Worship Service holds its service every Lord’s Day, at 10.30 am at Tanglin 1, RELC. Rev Kelvin Wong, Pr Kelvin Lim, Pr Daniel Lim, Pr William Goh, Eld John Leong and FEBC students have been invited to speak to the Chinese congregation. Rev Dr Koa Keng Woo preaches every 4th week of the month and administers the Lord’s Supper.
Children’s Ministry
The children are ministered to each Lord’s Day through the Children’s Ministry. They go to the 6th floor for the Children’s Worship Hour around 11 am. (They worship with the adults at the main service from 10.30 am until after the offertory prayer is made.)
Prayer Meeting
Prayer meetings are held every Friday evening at the RELC, and for the 1st Friday of each month, Family Worship cum Prayer Meeting is held at the homes of True Lifers. In keeping with the format of John Sung revival meetings, the study of God’s Word is led by Pastor Jeffrey Khoo and followed by a season of thanksgiving and testimonies, whereby the faith of members are fortified by hearing how the Lord has been good to the brethren. Prayer meeting has a regular attendance of about 100, with a good number of parents bringing their children with them to pray and seek the Lord’s blessing.
Sunday School
The Adults’ Sunday School is a key ministry that seeks to ground believers in the Word of God. After all, Christians are ‘people of the Book’; thus, it is fitting that adult believers especially be trained. It is held each Lord’s Day from 9.15 am to 10.15 am. In 2015, our key lecturer was Pr Joshua Yong, with Pr Clement Chew taking those slots (topics of his choice) when the former had been called away. Pr Joshua Yong continued on a detailed study of the Epistle to the Hebrews, completing it on June 7, 2015. The class then started on a study of the book of Daniel. On average, the attendance numbered 80, with a good mix of older and younger adults. The Session-member overseeing the Adult Bible Class in 2015 was Eld JT Joseph.
The Chinese Sunday School meets every Lord’s Day in Tanglin I from 9.15 am to 10 am, followed by a season of corporate prayer for the Church and fellow believers from 10 am to 10.15 am. For 2015, an in-depth study of the book of Psalms was done, covering Psalm 132 through to Psalm 150. Next, the Westminster Confession of Faith Larger Catechism was taught by Bro Zhu Jian Wei and Dn Tai Mern Yee. The Sunday School is typically attended by 10 to 15 members of the Chinese Service.
The Children’s Sunday School is led by Mrs Jemima Khoo, and ably assisted by a committed team of teachers and helpers.
Catechism Class
Catechism class is held once a year for 12 weeks (January to March) for those who wish to be baptised, be reaffirmed in their faith or join the Church as members. Basic doctrines of the Christian Faith and of the Bible-Presbyterian Church were taught by Pastor Jeffrey Khoo.
Evangelism
Door-to-door HDB flats’ evangelism continued at Toa Payoh HDB Estate every 3rd Sunday of the month till August 2015 with close to 30 (including children) coming each time to share the good news of salvation. From September 2015, E-band started evangelising in Tanglin Halt HDB Estate.
Missions and Outreaches
The Church supports missions in Australia (Rev Nguyen Gia Hien and Brisbane B-P Church, and Rev Errol Stone and Faith Presbyterian Church, Perth), Cambodia (Sun Sokha and Phnom Penh Bible-Presbyterian Church), Malaysia (Dr Wee Tiong Soon and Kemaman Life B-P Church), Myanmar (Thang No and New Life Orphanage in Yangon), Palestine/Bethlehem (Rev Danny Awad and Baraka Bible Presbyterian Church), and Africa (Missionaries Bai Eun Young and Rev Dr Park Seung Kyu, and Bible College of East Africa in Kenya and in Tanzania).
Choir Ministry
The Church Choir ministers to the congregation through music. Its theme verse is ‘Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing’ (Psalm 100:2). The Church Choir is led by a committee. Choir practices are held every Sunday after Worship Service and the average attendance at each practice is 30. The Church Choir presents an item on the first Sunday of the month as well as on special occasions and goes Christmas caroling every year. On special occasions such as Good Friday, Church Anniversary and Christmas Eve, an item will be jointly presented with the Youth Choir.
The Youth Choir renders a song item in praise to God every quarter on 5th Sundays. On special occasions, song presentations and their practices are combined with the Church Choir. The practices start at 12.30 pm every Lord’s Day (except on days of presentation) after the Worship Service. The average attendance is 23.
The Chinese Choir is a ‘family’ choir because its members range from young children and teenagers to elderly seniors, not forgetting all in between. The choir aims to encourage members in learning good old fashioned hymns in Mandarin, to praise our Lord and Saviour, and to be a means of grace to aid in our spiritual lives and edify fellow believers. Practices take place every Lord’s Day in Tanglin 2 from 12.30 pm to 1.15 pm. In 2015, the Chinese Choir was blessed to be able to render items of praise to God at all Combined English and Chinese worship services, as well as on multiple occasions at the Chinese Worship Service.
Bible Study Groups
The Church has three foreign language Bible Study groups meeting on the Lord’s Day. The Filipino, the Indonesian and the Myanmar Bible Study groups are led by FEBC students as part of their ministry practicum.
Adults Fellowship
The Adults Fellowship (AF) meets monthly on the 2nd Saturday at the homes of brethren. For Year 2015, the group completed the study of the book of Ezekiel with Pastor Jeffrey Khoo and embarked on the study of the Book of Proverbs with Pr Dennis Kabingue. The Fellowship celebrated their 10th Anniversary on February 14, 2015 and Pastor Jeffrey Khoo was the speaker. The AFers also support missions and the needy members of the Church. Average attendance is about 20.
Chinese Fellowship
The Chinese Fellowship (CF) meets bimonthly on the 3rd Saturday at the homes of brethren. What follows the preaching of God’s word is a time of testimony and thereafter hearty fellowship around the dining table. In 2015, we completed by God’s grace a book study of Philippians with Pr Kelvin Lim from Gethsemane Bible-Presbyterian Church. For our 5th Chinese Fellowship Thanksgiving Anniversary in November, a Gospel rally was organised where about a hundred heard the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ shared by our Pastor Jeffrey Khoo.
Family Bible Fellowship
The Lord has been very good to the Family Bible Fellowship (FBF); seeing the fellowship through these past 11 years. The FBF is led by a committee comprising of Bros Steve, Eric, Choon Seng and Pin Juh.
The theme verse of the FBF is from Psalm 127:1, ‘Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.’ We are also focusing on Matthew 7:24, ‘Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock’ which focus on the man who build his house upon Christ as our foundations for the family.
We thank God for all the Bible studies, messages, fellowships, informal activities and of course Christian edification over dinner after each fellowship meeting. We thank God for providing all the faithful pastors and preachers to teach us God’s precious Words and not forgetting the Sisters Celeste, Leanne and Joycelyn who taught the little ones during the messages. We have an average attendance of 50 members for our monthly meeting.
The Family Retreat was held at Thistle Hotel, JB from March 19 to 21, 2015. Rev Tan Kian Sing spoke to us on the theme ‘The Christian Home’. We thank God for the various messages and fellowship we had over the three days. It was a spiritual retreat and great lessons on the importance of the Christian home.
We thank God for the speakers who shared God’s Word on ‘The What, Why and How of Family Worship’, ‘Dealing with Customs and Traditions’, ‘Christian Witness and Evangelism’ and ‘Spiritual Stagnation, Backsliding and Depression’. This year we started to have a ‘Q&A’ session after each message.
The family is under constant attack by the devil and we must continue to protect and preserve the Christian Home. May the Lord continue to use the FBF for His Glory. Hebrews 10:25, ‘Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.’ Galatians 6:2, ‘Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.’
Ladies Fellowship
The Ladies Fellowship (LF) meets every 1st Wednesday evening of the month at 7.45 pm. We thank God for Pastor and Mrs Khoo who opened their home at Ghim Moh for the LF meetings. We welcome all True Lifers, and not just the ladies, to come and be spiritually uplifted by the Word of God and the sharing of prayers and testimonies.
The theme for 2015 was ‘Living in the Will of God’ (Romans 12:1-2) and we were blessed by Pr Joshua Yong, who taught us, from the scriptures, the practical application of biblical doctrines that we may lead holy lives to glorify our Heavenly Father. It was so encouraging to see many young people coming to our meetings every month.
Following the exhortation first given by our beloved founding Pastor, the late Rev Dr Timothy Tow, to give to missions, the LF has been giving to the Bible College of East Africa in Kenya. Thank God for preserving the LF and for our 11th Anniversary on February 4, 2015, when the Lord’s messenger was Pastor Jeffrey Khoo.
Young Adults Fellowship
The Young Adults Fellowship (YAF) meets on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturdays of the month at the home of Pastor as well as other YAFers. The YAF motto is ‘A Living Sacrifice’ taken from Romans 12:1-2. The theme for 2015 was ‘O How Love I Thy Law’ (Psalm 119:97a). The YAFers were blessed to have Pastor preaching from 1 Peter and Rev Dr Quek Suan Yew from the Ten Commandments. The YAF had her 3rd Anniversary Thanksgiving on October 17, 2015 at the RELC in praise of God’s goodness and faithfulness. The YAF Retreat was held at the Resort Lautan Biru, Mersing from November 30 to December 2, 2015. Pr Joshua Yong was the Lord’s messenger. He instructed the young adults on the theme ‘Study to Shew Thyself Approved unto God’ (2 Timothy 2:15). The average attendance is 16.
Young People’s Fellowship
The Young People’s Fellowship (YPF) ministers to all the young people ranging from primary school to tertiary students. About 40 young people meet every Saturday afternoon at Berean BPC. For 2015, the YPF adopted the theme ‘O to Be Like Thee’.
Pr Dennis Kabingue was the main speaker on the series ‘Knowing the Man Christ Jesus’, where the youths studied the character of our Saviour so that they might truly emulate Him. Pastor taught the Westminster Confession of Faith, while Dr Jose Lagapa, Rev Dr Prabhudas Koshy and Rev Dr Quek Suan Yew spoke on the series, ‘What the Bible says about…’. Besides studying God’s Word, the youths have activities such as combined Bible Study with brethren from Berean BPC every 4th week of the month, sports day, and cottage meetings at the homes of Church members. On March 14, 2015, the YPF commemorated its 11th Anniversary and the Lord’s messenger was Eld JT Joseph. Pastor was the theme speaker at the YPF Camp, which was held at Resort Lautan Biru, Mersing from December 20 to 23, 2015. The camp topic was ‘Remember Now Thy Creator’.
