Testimonies of New True-Lifers
The Lord Convicted My Heart
My conversion and salvation did not come about through a single event, but through a gradual process where the Lord convicted my heart that there can be no peace in this life, but there will be in the afterlife. My sister, who has been a Christian for a long time, spoke to me about God every now and then. For a long while, the Word of God had no effect on me. But by God’s grace, a gradual change has come upon my heart. Before knowing God, I believed that all that I have is through my own efforts, but when I am faced with tribulations, I felt very frustrated and lost. Only after hearing God’s words, I realised that everything happens not by chance but according to God’s will. I realised that only when I commit my life into God’s hands, then can I have peace in my heart, knowing that there is something better waiting for me.
I wanted to attend a conservative church with a proper reverence and worship of God. I believe the time has come for me to be baptised as a testimony of my faith in Jesus Christ. I joined True Life Church with my sister as I believe in the infallible and perfect Word of God. Without this belief, there would be little basis for my faith. All praise and glory to God. Sharon Ho
I Now Understand the Bible
I was born in a Roman Catholic family. Although I had the Bible, I could never understand what it means and did not know the way to be saved. I thank God for my very good employer (Mui Mui) to bring me to church to study God’sWord and to know the truth. After I came to True Life BPC, I feel my life change even in my family. My father had a problem with drinking and gambling. He said that he managed to stop gambling but not drinking. I could not do anything to help him except by praying. I encouraged him to read Galatians 5:19ff. A few weeks later, I called him, and he said thanks to me for encouraging him to read the Bible and now he has totally stopped gambling and drinking. The church members of True Life BPC encouraged me to read the Bible and told me the truth about how to be saved. I now understand what the Bible says and I find that Jesus is the only One who can lead us to heaven. I know Jesus as my personal Lord and Saviour for only Jesus can save me and in Him I find salvation, and I trust in Him alone. I thank God for this blessed time that I have come to learn and to know the truth. I give all thanks and glory to God. Margeretha Wini Gole
Crucified for My Sins
I came from a Christian family and was baptised as an infant on December 25, 1990 at Galilee B-P Church. I had reaffirmed my faith on December 22, 1996. I came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as my Saviour at a Christmas musical called “Emmanuel Has Come.” In this musical, I played the part of the Roman soldier who tortured Jesus Christ. I came to realise that Jesus is the one and only Living God, and He is worthy of our love, honour and obedience. I will always remember how Jesus was crucified on the cross for my sins. His Living Word Spoke to Me
I was born into a Christian family and came to know of our Lord Jesus Christ at a very young age. I feel very blessed and privileged to have been chosen out of so many people in this world to know Christ so early on in life.
When I was six years old, my Sunday school teacher started to ask us if we were absolutely sure that we were saved and have a place in heaven. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me” (John 14:6). His living word really spoke to me, and made me want to believe in Him. I then said the sinner’s prayer with my teacher.
When faced with obstacles in life, I looked to the Lord for His help. He never once failed me and always gave me the calmness and peace of mind whilst delivering me from difficulty. Now, I have come to a point in my life when I want to reaffirm my salvation. With conviction, I will serve the Lord and remain faithful to Him. Elias Wee
God’s Unfailing Protection
I thank God for leading me to Life BPC and later to Tabernacle BPC. I was taught and am still learning the fundamental Christian faith and doctrine, and how to live a Christlike life. Through faithful ministers, I have been warned of charismatism, liberalism and other “waves” of false movements and thereby able to keep a distance from them. However, the matter of VPI and VPP disturbed and cause much disappointment in me. But God’s protection and leading is never failing. After going through some months of searching and praying, God led me to True Life BPC. During the worship services, Adults’ Fellowship, FEBC night classes, through reading materials I continue to gain deeper understanding into the VPI and VPP issue. VPI and VPP promote and elevate God and give assurance that God is almighty, and He is GOD! Elisabeth Ow
The Words of God Strengthen My Heart
Ever since I was a Christian, I remained in the charismatic church for about 13 years. I was exposed to the doctrinal errors of the church. They were not happy with me when I disagree with their teachings, neither were they interested in pursuing Biblical knowledge. Their practice to me seems no different from that of the world. When I put their knowledge into practice, it leads me into trouble and disputes with my spouse. I took courage to leave the charismatic church.
When I joined Life B-P Church, I enrolled myself as a student in the FEBC night classes. I did not know the church was going through a crisis. I was heart-broken. As sinners, whom could we emulate? God’s Word is our Standard! If we cannot count on God, who can we count on? FEBC has taught me many precious lessons. It not only imparted to me knowledge, but taught me how to be discerning and make the right judgement. The words of God strengthen my heart. It edifies me, gives me courage, guides me and acquaints me with God, and helps me distinguish His voice from unfamiliar voices. That familiar voice warms my heart when I am despondent. It lifts up my soul when I wait upon Him to direct. Alice Lee
He Granted Me the Eyes of Faith to See
In varsity, I came into contact with quite a number of friends from charismatic churches. I was invited to attend their churches and finally settled down in Faith Community Baptist Church. However, due to its growing emphasis on tongue-speaking which made me somewhat uncomfortable, I started to question what the Christian belief was all about. I stopped going to church for a period.
I thank God for His grace and mercy that His Spirit moved me finally and gave me the desire to seek a church which will provide me with the answers to the many questions I had about the Christian faith. So when one of my friends who had been attending Life Church invited me to go with her to church, I readily agreed. I came to Life Church in August 1994 and was baptised in October 1995.
When the issue about the perfect Bible and preservation of the Bible surfaced, I was almost misled to take an erroneous view. I thank God that as I prayed over the decision I had to make and the stand I had to take, He led me to True Life and granted me the eyes of faith to see His Truth and to believe and trust in His Word. God has given me the peace in my heart as I take this step to transfer my membership. All glory and praise be to God. Amen. Elizabeth Mok
Taking the Step of Faith
I am not quite sure of the definite date and time of my conversion. As I look back over the years, I thank the Lord for His patience and mercy. It all started with a simple trip to church with a friend in distress who wanted to seek comfort in church. At that time she was a backslidden Christian while I was a nonbeliever. Such a combination made attending church rather easy since we were simply pew warmers and my friend did not bring up any confrontational issue such as sin, hell or salvation. But little did I know that through these casual visits to church, the Lord was sowing the gospel seed in me. As the weeks went by, my scepticism toward Christianity and animosity towards Christ were slowly demolished. The growing desire to learn God’s Word urged me to participate actively in Bible studies and prayer meetings. This went on for a few years until I was faced with the hurdle of baptism. I had tried to avoid baptism out of pure cowardice. My carnal thinking reasoned that there was simply too much at stake. I ran the risk of my whole family turning against me and being labeled a traitor of the pagan religion I was brought up in. God knew my struggles and pointed me to Matthew 8:25 on Sunday morning, and that finally led me to take the step of faith on December 29, 1996. Since then I never looked back. Ooi Aik Kean
His Unfailing Love for Me
Aik Kean and I were baptised at Calvary Pandan BPC. We started worshipping with True Life BPC since the beginning. It was truly God’s leading. I praise God for His unfailing love for me. He sought me through His faithful servant, Rev Timothy Tow. I could still remember how Rev Tow always preached about the importance of examining our hearts and our relationship with our Saviour. He would often ask if we truly love God even if we profess to be Christians. Each time my heart of stone was pricked and how I wept for my lack of love for my Saviour after Rev Tow’s sermons. I saw Rev Tow growing weaker and weaker but still he tried his very best to preach every week. I was so ashamed of my own indifference for lost souls and lukewarmness for Christ. Then I decided it is time to “come home” to my Saviour.
Surely it is God’s will for me to become a member of True Life BPC after a long wait of 4½ years. I am glad to be part of True Life BPC and FEBC to contend for the perfect preservation of God’s holy words. Without the perfect Word of God as our shining beacon in this dark and sin-cursed world, we would all perish. So may the Lord help me to remain faithful to Him and His perfectly preserved words until the very end. All praise, glory, and honour to our only risen Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Elizabeth Pang
