CHINESE WORSHIP SERVICE
We thank God for how He has used our Chinese Worship Service to guide many to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to saving faith in Him alone. Today, the Chinese Service commemorates its 4th anniversary with a thanksgiving service.
We have a small but growing congregation of about 50 at our Chinese Service currently meeting in Tanglin 1. We thank the Lord for all who have come to minister to our Chinese brethren, namely, Rev Dr Koa Keng Woo, Rev Lee Kim Shong, Rev Stephen Khoo, Pr Daniel Lim, Pr Kelvin Wong, Pr William Goh, Pr Kelvin Lim, Eld John Leong and Eld Leong Yin Chu. Dn Tai Mern Yee and brother Samuel Eio take turns to teach in the Chinese Sunday School.
Here are the salvation testimonies of those who have recently declared their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ at our Easter Sunrise Service:
I Know God Is With Me
I had visited a church when I was young. Out of curiosity, I stepped into a church at Bencoolen Street, but was chased out, because the church members said I’m not a member of their church.
After a long period of time, in 2007, a friend invited me to a church in Jurong. But the building structure of that church was not handicapped friendly and a great challenge for me. Thank God, despite the dangers posed by the slopes and steps, God kept me safe and protected me from any falls and also brought me home peacefully. However, thereafter, my friend feared for my safety and did not invite me to the church anymore.
I moved house in 2009. Two years later in July 2011, a neighbour of mine invited me to her church. In January 2012, I was baptised in that church and became a member of that church. I attended that church for more than a year. But the church often rotated its worship venue. Furthermore, the preacher in his preaching often talked about his personal philosophy and experience, and did not truly expound the Bible. This made me confused.
Thank God, I got to know sister Bernice and she invited me to worship at True Life BPC. Thank God for hearing my prayer, and leading me to a church with a fixed location to worship Him. In this church, I am very happy to be able to hear the Word of God. I felt my life has improved, I am more cheerful and my body healthier. Even my daughter-in-law commented I have put on weight.
Whenever I met with problems in life, I know God is with me. Once, I fell down and could not get up. I prayed to God and He gave me strength to pull the bed sheets and climb up. Another time I fell ill, and had high fever. I prayed to God for help. He gave me rest, and the next day I could have strength to go to see the doctor.
I believe I am a sinner. I do not have the ability to obtain eternal life on my own and I am going to hell. But I have trusted in Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour. When I die, I will go to heaven. Chai Sze Moi
There Is Hope and Joy in My Heart
In the past, I had no religion. But, because of problems in my husband’s business and pressures of life, I started searching for a true God to relieve the burdens in my heart and give me peace. Hence, I started worshipping idols hoping that they could bring me peace and safety.
One day, my sister-in-law, Shuxin, called me and invited me to attend my father-in-law’s baptism. I took the opportunity to share my problems with her. She told me that only Jesus could save me.
On 9 April 2013, Shuxin brought Pastor Khoo to my house to share God’s Word with me. That day, I took the first step in following the Lord Jesus. Pastor Khoo also removed from my home the idol, ‘Guan Yin’, which I had only worshipped for 12 days. Praise the Lord!
I have been attending True Life Bible- Presbyterian Church for eight months now. I know that Jesus died on the cross for the atonement of our sins and He rose again on the third day. I have also learnt how to entrust all my worries to God, and through prayer let Him help and lead me. There is hope and joy in my heart and I sincerely believe that all things will work together for good for those who trust in Jesus.
I am thankful to God for all the help, care and support I have received from my in-laws.
Thank God that I know Jesus. I have decided to be baptised and hope that my husband and my children will also come to know the Lord and accept Him as their personal Lord and Saviour. Wendy Koh Ah Siew
God Led Me to the Right Way
Since young, I went to the Chinese temple and prayed to all the idols. I even attended church services but was unable to have peace of mind as I am not sincere in my beliefs and have walked the wrong ways many times in my life.
The last few years were the biggest fall of my life. I am on the wrong track again and have hurt my family, my wife, my son and my daughter. I have no way out and have lost the meaning of life, living in shame and fear.
My dear sisters, Sok Ngoh and Sok Sin, helped me again and gave me a lifeline. They told me to attend church—True Life Bible-Presbyterian Church—with my wife every Sunday and that’s how I came to know about Jesus, the Son of God who died for us, atoned for our sins and resurrected on the third day.
Initially I was not quite convinced about Jesus, the Son of God, until I saw my wife who suffers from depression recovering gradually since she accepted Christ as her Saviour.
I am reading my Bible daily and my prayer has been answered and I am on my road to recovery. I believe that by being a Christian, my life will change for the better. Thanks to God for leading me to the right way. Through Jesus, the Son of God, I will know more about His words and I accept Him as my personal Lord and Saviour. Charlie Tan (Wendy Koh’s husband who attends the English Service)
Thank Jesus for His Great Love
I was born and raised in a non-Christian family. After marriage, I also followed my mother-in-law to worship idols. When my mother-in-law passed away, I brought the idols to my home to worship.
The first time I came into contact with Christianity was when my son married a Christian wife. My son and my daughter-in-law often brought me and my husband to church. After some time, they did not continue to bring us to church because my son was busy with his work.
On 9 October 2013, my daughter Janey brought her church friend, Jenny Kan to my house. Jenny shared with my husband and me the doctrine of original sin and the gospel of Jesus Christ. By her clear explanation of salvation in Jesus, my husband and I followed Jenny to recite the sinner’s prayer, and accepted Jesus as our personal Saviour.
Thank Jesus for His great love! I want to be baptised to declare my faith in Him. All glory be to Jesus my Saviour! Ng Bee Yong
Blessed Be the Lord
I was born and raised in a Taoist family. We lived at Woodlands Road (Yew Tee Village). I have six brothers and three sisters. I joined the Civil Service in 1957 and in 1962 moved out with my wife and three children to Blk 25 Tanglin Halt Road. I changed job in 1974 and we moved to Blk 12 Holland Avenue. I retired in 1999 (Nov).
In 2006 I gave up Taoism, and in 2007 we moved again to Blk 20 Holland Drive. In 2008 my sons took us to City Harvest Church for Sunday Services on several occasions. In between 2010 to 2013 we did not attend any church services until 19 and 26 May 2013 when our daughter Janey brought us to the Bible-Presbyterian Church at Pandan Gardens. But there the Chinese and English services begin at different times. On 2 June 2013, Janey brought us to True Life Bible-Presbyterian Church at RELC.
On 9 October 2013, Mrs Jenny Kan and Janey visited us at my house to share the doctrine of original sin and the gospel. Together with my wife and daughter, we recited the sinner’s prayer and received the Lord Jesus into our lives. Blessed be the Lord. Chua Kim Par (Ng Bee Yong’s husband who attends the English Service)
Thank God for Blessing My Whole Family
At the age of seven, I studied at an English-Chinese School. I dreamt that when I grew up, I would work to earn money, buy a house, get married and have children. In 1942, Japan invaded Singapore. In 1947, the Japanese surrendered. In 1948, when both my parents passed away, I was only twenty over years old. I continued to work. After that, my dreams came true—job, house, marriage, children and a big family.
Sometime in 1962, I attended Life Church in Prinsep Street with my wife and children. We worshipped there and also joined the catechism class. Thereafter, we were baptised. Later, my family and I left and went to Life BPC at Newton for worship. There were times when I did not keep the Sabbath as I had to go to work. I have retired. I am now attending True Life BPC with my wife and daughter.
I prayed to accept Jesus as my personal Saviour, and have asked Him to wash me clean of my sins in His precious blood. Thank the Lord, my whole family, including my big grandchildren, are believers. Thank the Lord for blessing my whole family with His peace. Ng Ah Leng
God Will Take Care of Me
I was not a believer, but attended a Roman Catholic school. I only knew that I was born into this world to live and to die later. I knew nothing about God until one day I met my husband who is a Christian, and he brought me to church. After attending church for ten years, I came to know God and asked Him to come into my life, and also asked Him to forgive me of my sins.
I was once disturbed by some unknown spirit while travelling. My husband came to know about it. So that night, before we slept my husband and I prayed for protection. After that I felt comforted because I knew God would take care of me. I like this hymn, “Trust and obey, for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.” Lydia Lim
God Gave Me Peace
In 1984, after returning to Taiwan, because of failure in business and also facing much pressure in life, I suffered from depression. At that time, my eldest daughter brought me to a church to hear the gospel. That gave me peace in my heart and I was baptised there. Thank the Lord. Pang Ming Li
