MISSIONS UPDATE
Park Jung Il
(Preacher, Covenant Bible-Presbyterian Church, Changwon, S Korea)
Greetings in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, who gives us blessed hope in our heart.
We had worship service for almost two years in my house with my family because of Covid-19. My brother-in-law regularly attends the worship service. He was proud and refused to worship the Lord for more than 20 years. Because of Covid-19, he lost his job and had a financial problem. His heart became humble. He prayed to God. He starts to open his heart to the Lord. Every Sunday, he worships together with us. My sister-in-law also attended our prayer meeting. She worships alone in her house online. We have invited her to our worship service but she has rejected our invitation. My wife and I keep praying for her.
This year, we learned the book of Numbers. Now I have been preaching the gospel of John. Next Sunday, we will complete chapter 17. After John’s gospel, we will learn the epistle to the Hebrews. After that, we will go back to the book of Deuteronomy. I am very happy to preach God’s Word. You said in your Greek Exegesis class that if we learn Greek Exegesis, there is no need to copy other people’s sermons. It is true. I enjoy preparing my sermons and it is my joy. I did not take Hebrew Reading and Exegesis. I have greatly regretted it.
As I become accustomed to my ministry, I become lazier spiritually or I become tired spiritually. I don’t know what the problem is. I try to overcome spiritual laziness by studying more and praying more. Covid-19 has made me realize how precious the fellowship of the brethren is. The encouragement from God’s Word refreshes us. My theme verses are, “And it came to pass, when the ark set forward, that Moses said, Rise up, LORD, and let thineenemies be scattered; and let them that hate thee flee before thee. And when it rested, he said, Return, O LORD, unto the many thousands of Israel.” (Num 10:35–36).
As the one in charge of a small church, the only thing I can do is preach God’s Word faithfully and pray to God for deliverance from all kinds of problems, including church members’ problems. This is my job and that’s all. As time goes on, I may learn more. This year I learnt the above. God willing, the time will come. The church must grow. I will do my job slowly but not give up. Thanks for remembering and praying for me and the church. We also pray for True Life BP Church. (Nov 24, 2021)
