AS CHILDREN OF LIGHT
A Report on the YPF Camp 2013 by Andrew Kan
“Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.” (1 Thess 5:5-6).
We thank God for the recently concluded annual Young People’s Fellowship camp, and we thank God for bringing in so many youths this year. A total of 63 youths, part-timers included, camped at Calvary Tengah BPC premises from the 16th to the 20th of December 2013. We were much blessed by the daily exposition of the infallible and inerrant Scriptures by Pastor from First Thessalonians. We were taught what it meant to watch and be sober, why we ought to know the doctrine of the Rapture and the End Days. We were challenged to examine ourselves, our salvation, our testimonies as Christians, and our readiness for Christ’s return.
Each morning before our scheduled Quiet-Time, we were taught God’s Word by brother Clement Chew on “What Is Quiet Time”. He gave three messages on why “I Need Quiet Time”, “I Need God’s Word”, and “I Need Prayer”. A modesty workshop was led by the Rev and Mrs Das Koshy where we learnt that modesty stems primarily from holiness. There was also a screening of the film “Pilgrim’s Progress”, and the youths shared the many lessons they learnt during the dorm devotions. Each night, the boys and girls would gather in their separate dorms to share their thanksgivings, prayer requests, lessons learnt, and to end the day with a time of prayer.
While there were times of great fun during the camp, it was also very much a time of reflection and immersion into the study of God’s Word, fellowship and just plain catching up. We thank God for the many sincere testimonies of how many youths were convicted, encouraged and edified through the preaching and learning of God’s Word, with many resolving to lead more God-centred lives henceforth, especially in view of His soon coming. Since the end of the camp, more youths have come forward to serve the Lord in various areas in the YPF, and more have started coming for FEBC night classes.
May the Lord help us to be ever mindful of the scarcity of time left on this earth, so that we may watch and be sober, faithfully serving Him wherever we can, for soon we will stand before our Heavenly Father. We pray that our Lord may say to us, “well done, thou good and faithful servant”.
