FAMILY BIBLE FELLOWSHIP
Dr Chan Kay Heem
The Family Bible Fellowship (FBF) was started nine years ago by a group of brethren who wanted a fellowship group that could cater specifically to the needs of parents with young children.
While meeting the needs of such families, we nevertheless warmly welcome like-minded brothers and sisters in Christ to join us in our fellowship meetings, regardless of age or gender. God willing, the FBF meets on the last Saturday of each month, with the exception of December. Our meetings start at 5.30 pm and we normally end with a fellowship pot-bless dinner.
We invite faithful preachers of God’s Word to teach us His truth. While the adults listen to the message/lesson, the children have their own lessons, taken by experienced Sunday School teachers from our church and FEBC. In this way, the parents can concentrate on the lesson in peace, knowing their children are also being fed God’s Word at the same time.
We would like to invite church members who have yet to join a fellowship group to join us, particularly families with young children.
We will all do well to heed biblical wisdom: “And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” (Deut 6:5-7).
Enhancing the Spiritual Growth of Families
Our church is truly blessed by having many spiritual activities supplementing a solid pulpit ministry grounded on the infallible and inerrant Word of God.
One such activity is the FBF. Families are God-ordained, and we parents need much guidance and encouragement from the Word of God to raise children imbued with the right values in life.
Given the current pace of life, family worship at home can be infrequent, and the FBF thus provides an avenue for church-families to get together for a time of learning and sharing around the Word of God. We have been blessed with very good teachers and a unique setting for enhancing the spiritual growth of families.
Although my husband and I attend without our two children who are currently abroad, it gives us much joy to hear the chatter and laughter of the children who accompany their parents to FBF meetings, there being a separate programme for them. This exposure to children from Christian homes, would surely endow them with the discernment to choose friends at school.
Meeting monthly at the home of members, the FBF provides a wonderful opportunity for families to share their woes and joys, seek advice on parenting skills and share culinary and health tips in the spirit of Christian love. Such meetings strengthen church-families, thereby contributing to the overall ‘health’ of our Church. Mrs Patricia Joseph
Learning the Importance of a Christian Family
I would like to thank God for the FBF from where I see and learn the importance of a Christian family that stays together. The Bible truly has the guidelines for everything which includes the concerns of the family. Since January, the overview of the Old Testament has been preached by Rev Quek in the fellowship and from it I see the importance of a family together. Even when Abraham was called by the Lord, his whole family was included. I would also like to praise the Lord that it is the same for my family, when my father was called to study in FEBC. It is truly a blessing to come to Singapore as a family and I believe that God has a purpose for our stay here.
FBF has been one of the many blessings where I receive many lessons and warnings from the Bible and experience the warm fellowship that everyone extends. I hope many more families will join the FBF and that they will also see the importance, joy, and blessing of a family that stays together. Theya B Lagapa
Helping Me Grow in Faith
I look forward to the FBF every last Saturday of the month. My parents have been bringing me to the fellowship meeting since I was five. The children will be taught by godly teachers. This year I have been learning about prophets, the mouthpiece of God. I would like to learn more about God and His Word to help me grow in faith. I always enjoy the pot-bless and the playtime after dinner too.
I want to thank God for FBF, the teachers and the wonderful lessons which help me to walk closer to God. I also would like to pray for more people to join us for FBF. Hannah Chin
Enjoying Warm Christian Fellowship
I started joining the FBF since its inauguration about nine years ago. In FBF, there is the faithful preaching of God’s Word which has been instructive to me in my walk with the Lord. The testimonies of brothers and sisters-in- Christ are very encouraging and have helped me trust God more. I also enjoy the warm Christian fellowship over dinner.
Although I may not fully comprehend the messages in English, the lessons I have understood have certainly aided in my spiritual growth. What matters to me most is that FBF is another opportunity for me to get close to God by being with His people and to glorify His name.
I am thankful to God for FBF! Alice Han
