True Life Adults’ Fellowship
Thanksgiving testimonies from members of the Adults’ Fellowship on the occasion of their
7th Anniversary Thanksgiving
Thanking Our Heavenly Father for His Faithfulness
William Teo
“O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph. For the LORD most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth.” (Ps 47:1-2).
As we rejoice in the LORD when we celebrated our Adults’ Fellowship’s 7th Anniversary in February 2012, we are grateful and thankful to our Heavenly Father for His faithfulness, goodness and mercy in sustaining us up to today. With His help, we have an abundant supply of His faithful servants to teach us His Word despite their busy schedules so that our needs are met. We are currently studying the “Ten Commandments” taught to us by the Rev Dr Quek Suan Yew. Through this study, we recount God’s sovereignty and His holiness and the practical application of the message by Rev Quek at each meeting helped us to examine our lives to see how we have fallen short of God’s commandments and how we must repent and live our lives to obey God’s word. Thank God for His sanctifying Truth.
We hope that you could come to visit us and join us in future that we may fellowship and encourage one another in the Lord, every third Saturday of the month, 3.30 pm at Woodlands. May the Lord help us to study His Word diligently and to know Him deeper in our lives that we may glorify Him in all that we do, especially in these last days as we see the nearness of the second coming of our Lord.
Spiritually Refreshing to Study God’s Law
Elizabeth Mok
We thank God for leading us to study the Ten Commandments for our Bible study this year and for providing the Rev Quek Suan Yew to be our speaker. It is spiritually refreshing to learn the Law of God again as they form the basic guiding principles for every believer’s life. Our speaker not only taught us the Law according to God’s Word but often challenged us to think and meditate upon each commandment and gave us practical illustrations as to how we ought to live a life that is pleasing and honouring to God.
We have learned many precious truths like for example why and how we should keep, guard and protect the Sabbath day as it is a special and precious day set aside for believers to worship God as a body of Christ and to commune with God personally and individually.
We also learned how we ought to put God first in our hearts and to love Him and others because He first loved us and has given believers the power and will to love. When we love God it will be expressed in our relationship with others. Romans 5:5, “… the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us”.
Bearing One Another’s Burdens in Prayer
Jason Lim
I thank the Lord for the opportunities in the past year to attend the Adults’ Fellowship meetings. Through the meetings I have learnt many spiritual things. The prayer sessions at every meeting where we intercede for one another and others in the church have taught me the importance of bearing one another’s burdens and always bringing our needs before the Lord.
This year, the preaching by Rev Quek Suan Yew on the Ten Commandments has also taught me the will of God and cleared up any misconceptions about the commandments. For example, I have learnt the proper application of the fourth commandment and how to avoid both the lack of observance of the Sabbath law found in many churches that have a low view of the law as well as the legalistic application found in some conservative churches. This shows how important it is for us to interpret and apply scriptures correctly. 2 Timothy 2:15 tells us to “study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
Indeed, I have been richly blessed by the preaching and learnt much in the way of dividing the Word of God correctly during the Adults’ Fellowship meetings. May the Lord continue to use the Adults’ Fellowship to minister His truth unto the saints. All glory be to the Lord Most High.
Spiritual Growth via Studying the Holy Words
Shirley Gan
After moving to Woodlands, I attended the Bible study at the True Life Adults’ Fellowship in August 2009. Praise Almighty God that Mr and Mrs William Teo open their house for Bible study every month. The Holy Scripture was taught by dedicated and faithful servants of God, Pastor Jeffrey Khoo and Rev Quek Suan Yew.
Currently we are studying the Ten Commandments. In this modern and affluent world people forget to worship the Lord our Saviour on Sabbath day as a priority. Children do not respect their parents let alone support them when they are old. The present worldly people overwork themselves. Competition to perform well in life leads to unhappiness. With all the unrest in many countries and economic crises threatening peace, one expects our Lord to come back soon. Let us gather together to study the Holy Bible. I find the preaching very enriching and it is a check on our walk with God.
In Romans 10:17, we are told, “Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” At the Adults’ Fellowship meetings, we pray for one another and console one another. This Christian gathering helps to foster good Christian fellowship and understanding of God’s Word. By hearing more of God’s Word we grow more spiritual and trust and obey His Commandments. Praise God for sending His Son Jesus Christ to die for my sin and for saving my soul.
Learned Many Precious Lessons
Leong Kin Meng
After many years of studying God’s Word in the Young People’s Fellowship (YPF), it was time for me to upgrade to the Adults’ Fellowship. Since I joined the Adults’ Fellowship, I have learned many precious lessons from Rev Jeffrey Khoo and Rev Quek Suan Yew. In the Adults’ Fellowship, we learn to pray for one another. I urge all adults to join us for fellowship on the third Saturday of every month. Hebrews 10:24-25, “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
Great Is God’s Faithfulness
Dn Leong Kwok Whye
The Acts of the Apostle is a record of the triumph of the gospel against the wiles of the Evil one. It is a selective account of early church history from about AD 30 to AD 62. I thank God that our beloved Pastor had systematically taught the Adults’ Fellowship every chapter of the book of Acts. It was indeed a marathon study of the book, and I would like to share one of the many lessons learned.
The Gospel of Matthew ended with the Great commission of Christ, Matthew 28:18- 20 says, “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
The book of Acts is a record of God’s faithfulness to His people. He was with His disciples every step of the way as the disciples obeyed His Word and spread the good news of Jesus Christ from Jerusalem to Judea, Samaria and the outermost parts of the then Roman empire. The gospel work was tough because there were many physical, racial and political persecutions. In addition, the work was also strenuous because the apostles had to travel thousands of kilometres across treacherous bandit-infested and mountainous terrains to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ and they did it without the comfort of a modern transportation system.
Despite the appalling hardships, God was very faithful as He was there to strengthen His disciples. This faithfulness of God stands in sharp contrast to the wickedness of the religious and political leaders who blatantly lied, bullied and persecuted God’s servants. The enemies beat and shackled the Apostle Paul to stop him from spreading the gospel, but the all- faithful God not only freed the apostles from prison miraculously (Act 16:25-26), He also saved the Philippian jailor who became one of the first European converts (Acts 16:31-33). Subsequently, European evangelism grew (Phil 1:5).
In the course of studying the book of Acts, our pastor also pointed out the similarities between the persecution of God’s witnesses in the book of Acts and the persecution of God’s witnesses in church history, even FEBC’s witness for the perfect Word of God. Indeed, Satan’s hatred for God’s Word never ceases.
The Bible is the precious Word of Life. Many true believers have died for this precious Word. We will be spiritually blessed when we are faithful to His Word. I would like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome you to the monthly Adults’ Fellowship where you will be richly blessed by the teaching of God’s Word. Truly great is His faithfulness (Lam 3:23).
