FEBC: Remembering 50 Years
We thank the Lord for His good hand upon the Far Eastern Bible College (FEBC) over the last 50 years. This 50th anniversary almost could not take place because of a lawsuit to evict and take over the leadership of FEBC. FEBC was all but lost, but God saved FEBC. Our Saviour has proven Himself once again to be the sovereign and faithful God. He keeps His promises. He never forsakes His own. He is true to His promises. He is always a Refuge and Strength to all who trust in Him and His forever infallible and inerrant words. To celebrate and commemorate this important event of its Golden Jubilee, FEBC will hold a special thanksgiving service on September 21, 2012 (DV).
37th Graduation Service
FEBC will conduct its 37th graduation service this evening at Calvary Pandan Bible- Presbyterian Church, 6 pm sharp. All are welcome! This year’s graduation is a particularly auspicious one, being the 50th year of the College. The choirs of Calvary Pandan, True Life and Truth Bible-Presbyterian Churches will be singing. The Principal will speak on the topic, “Faithfulness in His Majesty’s Service” (2 Tim 2:2). The FEBC Board and Faculty will renew their commitment to God’s Word tonight by taking the Dean Burgon Oath.
Daily Vacation Bible College
Tonight’s graduation service is a culmination of a special week of lectures—the Daily Vacation Bible College (DVBC), April 30- May 5, 2012. The Rev Dr Quek Suan Yew, Academic Dean of FEBC, lectured on the Theology of Giving. A hundred and twenty students attended the course, and it proved to be a most profitable time for them. A warm welcome to our fellow believers and friends from overseas who flew in just to attend the DVBC—Rev Errol Stone from Perth, Australia, Dn and Mrs Jonas Ba’a and Prof Pat Solidum from Mindanao, the Philippines, and sister Wisuda from Bangkok, Thailand.
Special May Day Lecture on Charitable Purpose Trusts
Prof Tan Yock Lin
We thank the Lord for Prof Tan Yock Lin, a devout Christian, and distinguished Geoffrey Bartholomew Professor of Law at the National University of Singapore who gave a special lecture on Charitable Purpose Trusts on May 1, 2012. An expert and the author of a textbook on Trusts and Equities, FEBC is truly privileged and honoured to have him lecture on this important and relevant subject. Two hundred came to hear the lecture which was open to the public free of charge. It is important for believers to know that there is a law in society which protects the funds given for charitable purposes. This was the very law that protected FEBC from being evicted by Life Bible- Presbyterian Church. The law found beneficiary of the charitable purpose trusts at 9, 9A and 10 Gilstead Road. This is also in keeping with God’s law, “Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.” (Prov 22:28).
Eld Dr Tow Siang Yeow Retires as President of FEBC Board
Eld Dr Tow Siang Yeow has decided to step down as President of the Board of Directors of FEBC due to health reasons. Eld Dr Tow is FEBC’s 4th President, and the longest-serving President. He was appointed President in 1990, and has served the College with distinction all these 22 years. We pray the Lord to keep Eld Dr Tow in his evening years, and may the Lord guide the Board in their search for a new President.
Rev Eben Yoon and Family
Rev Eben Yoon and family were in Singapore from April 27 to May 2, 2012. Rev Yoon is an FEBC alumnus (MDiv, 2005), and now serves as missionary to Kenya under the Independent Board for Presbyterian Foreign Missions (USA). Rev Yoon serves as Academic Dean of the Bible College of East Africa (BCEA) whose Principal, the Rev Dr Mark Kim (EdD, 2008), is one of FEBC’s outstanding alumni. Arriving just in time to participate at the end-of-term thanksgiving service, Rev Yoon spoke to both faculty and students on the need to be faithful servants of Christ. May the Lord bless him and his dear wife Mi Jung and three young children—Ha Eun, Ha Jin and Ha Hyun—as they serve the Lord together in Africa.
Mersing Retreat
After another term of hard work and studies, the faculty and students of FEBC look forward to a time of fellowship and recreation at the Resort Lautan Biru in Mersing. We will be there for three days and two nights, May 7-9, 2012. The Resort Lautan Biru was the dream and vision of the late Rev Dr Timothy Tow—FEBC’s founding Principal—to build a peaceful, comfortable, and economical place for Christian youths to hold their Bible camps and fellowship retreats. The Resort has been a blessing to FEBC and others for over a decade. Praise the Lord!
