TO GROW IN THE LORD TOGETHER
Testimonies from the Young Adults Fellowship (YAF)
By God’s divine providence, the ministry of the YAF started on 20 October 2012. The YAF is an avenue of grace where Christian young adults can come together to grow in the Lord by worshipping God, studying His Word, and serving Him. In the YAF, the Word of God is central, for it is the only righteous “lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Ps 119:105).
The motto of the YAF is “A Living Sacrifice” taken from Romans 12:1-2, “I beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God”.
The fellowship meetings start at 3.30 pm on the first and third Saturdays of every month and are held at the homes of church brethren. Praise God for bringing about 20 like- minded brethren to each meeting. Their love and zeal for the Lord, earnest desire to study God’s Word and know His will, and willingness to open their homes for the YAF meetings have encouraged me much.
Praise God also for never failing to provide faithful speakers to minister His truth to His children. By God’s grace, the YAF has completed the study of Galatians under Elder Joseph. Currently, Pastor Jeffrey Khoo is preaching on the YAF motto, “A Living Sacrifice”, while Dr Jose Lagapa is teaching Systematic Theology (an overview).
May the Lord continue to draw more young adults to this avenue of grace and use the ministry of the YAF to bless the young adults in church that they may grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. Soli DEO Gloria! Herbert Goh
A Means of Grace
In my earthly pilgrim’s journey, the YAF is a means of grace for me. Through it, I form friendships built upon the common goal of pursuing God’s truths and living them out daily. This has given me strength to walk more steadfastly with the Lord and lightened the burdens in my life through the uplifting and instructive words from fellow Christian brethren. I will like to encourage more young adults to join us in tasting the goodness of the Lord in helping us purify our souls “in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently” (1 Pet 1:22). Friendship’s Foundation in Christ
The YAF has truly been a blessing to me. Through the YAF, friendships have been built, strengthened as well as renewed. Most importantly, these friendships have their foundations in Christ, where we encourage one another in our walk with the Lord. The YAF Motto, “A Living Sacrifice”, has especially ministered to me. Thank God for faithful preachers. The discussion and sharing sessions that follow the messages have been a most blessed time as we share our burdens one with another. Joycelyn Chng
Mutual Sharing of Our Cares
Apart from the faithful messages preached, I have also gained much from the discussion and sharing sessions at the YAF. It is through these sessions that I have been greatly encouraged in my walk with the Lord. The mutual sharing of our cares and burdens, and even thanksgiving and praise to God have helped me in the challenges and trials that I face, especially at the workplace. I am reminded that there is no temptation too hard that God will not help me bear, and I am encouraged to know that I am not alone in my struggles (1 Cor 10:13). Jacelyn Chng
Marvellous Help in Attaining Victory
The entrapments and charms of the world all so often allure our sights, and cloud our vision of our Saviour, and I have many a time found myself caught up in the world and struggling through the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. Since leaving university and being out in the work force, I have found them to be so real and so vivid. The desire to be recognised by others, the unspiritual striving for that which is material and earthly, and the difficulty in keeping the heart pure have all inundated me at one point or another over the years. Yet, there is victory in Christ and truly I have found the ministry of the YAF to be such a marvellous help in attaining victory. Jason Lim
An Avenue to Serve God
The YAF is a prayer answered. Studying the Word of God, praying and sharing together with like-minded brothers and sisters are a blessing from our God. No Christian is an island by himself. Often, we need to have mutual encouragement and pray for one another. Thank God for providing an avenue for me to serve Him. God never fails; therefore we trust in Him and lean not unto our own understanding. Katharine Kiew
Many Close Friends Now
As a young working adult, I face many challenges at work and have often felt discouraged. I thank God for the YAF where most of us, young, working and like-minded brethren can share and encourage one another in difficult times. “Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.” (Ps 37:5). I have many close Christian friends now, whom I rather spend my time with than the friends of the world. Thank God for this fellowship! Esther Kiew
Grown to Be a Better Person
Through the YAF, I have grown to be a better person; someone who walks closely with God. In the past, I was a very worldly person, always doing things to “fit in” with the world. Soon after, I began to understand that worldly pleasures are temporal; they fade away. Only God is eternal; our life belongs to Him. Therefore, we have to live our life in accordance to His way, and not be conformed to this world, to walk not in the broad way but the narrow way. Our purpose in life is to be a witness to the worldly friends around us. I am blessed to have made many kingdom friends in the YAF. I am truly glad that we are able to grow together in Christ and to learn more about who our Lord Jesus Christ really is. We can never stop learning and knowing more about Him. Together, we can be a living testimony for Christ to our friends and relatives out there. Lynn Huang
Thank God for Warm Fellowship
Indeed, it is very encouraging to have a fellowship group such as YAF, where people who are at the same stage of life can come together to learn God’s Word, share each other’s burden and pray for one another. I truly thank God for the many lessons I have learnt from the faithful preachers and the fruitful discussion sessions meeting after meeting. Thank God for the warm fellowship amongst us and for placing these like- minded brothers and sisters in-Christ in my life. “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Ps 133:1). A Common Need and Goal
The YAF is God’s answer to my prayer. In this fellowship, we have young adults coming from various fields of profession. Our occupations may be different, but we all have one common need—Christian fellowship. We share one common struggle, that is, not to conform to this world, but to conform to the image of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We also share one common goal, that is, to live our lives as living sacrifices unto the Lord. We meet every alternate Saturday afternoon to study the Word of God ministered to us by faithful preachers. There is an avenue for us to give thanks, to speak about our burdens, to encourage one another, to carry one another’s burdens, to the Lord, for the Lord, in the Lord. Thank God for His goodness. God Never Fails to Provide
The YAF provides many like-minded young adults a place to gather and encourage one another in the Lord, especially when faced with common struggles and temptations in the working environment. It helps us to re-focus and put our trust in God, committing our daily activities unto Him. Through the past year, God has never failed to provide us a place of worship for every YAF gathering. It is truly by His grace and mercy that this is made possible. “And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.” (Acts 4:32). A Convicting Encouragement
I recently finished University and have been working full-time for nearly a year. More than ever, I need help from God to guide my steps as I lead my life because life itself is not as simple anymore. For this, I truly thank God for the ministry of the YAF. I just need to look around at my fellow (slightly older) brethren to see what it means to be a living sacrifice. I see how God works in their lives as they struggle with issues that I might one day have to work through, and that is such a convicting encouragement. It is by God’s grace that the Fellowship has been going strong this year and has been a blessing to me and the others. Santosh Kumar
Not Alone in Spiritual Struggles
Our fellowship through personal sharing in groups has often reminded me that I am not alone in this daily spiritual battle. I thank God for the brethren who text or tell me that they are praying for me and my family. Thank God for people who bear my burdens together with me in times of difficulty. Whenever we share of our trials and our spiritual struggles, we acknowledge our weakness and need for God’s strength in our lives. “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” (Heb 10:24-25).
