Dear Brethren and Friends,

Welcome to the Filipino Worship Service!

The Lord be praised for His goodness and mercy upon our young people. Last December 10, 2022, we had our 5th Young Peoples’ Bible Conference. It is a biennial meeting (taking place every other year) which started in 2014. The first three were held in Central Mindanao University. However, due to the pandemic, the platform was changed to pattern after online meetings. Several churches hosted the meetings that plays the recorded messages for the young people. It used to be a 3-day and 2-night conference but the pandemic compacted the meeting into one day with 3 main messages which used to be 8 messages. —JTGL

Young People's Bible Conference — 2022

Theme: “Be Ye Ready”

“Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh” (Matthew 24:44)

Last year’s Young Peoples’ Bible Conference was again a hybrid of recorded messages and physical meeting of participants in each of the participating host churches in Visayas and Mindanao. We praise the Lord for His blessings upon this conference. There were 5 messages recorded: the Introduction message, three main messages and a closing message to wrap up everything.

The promise of the return of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is much doubted today by many, even among Christians, especially the young people. The signs of His coming are so clearly seen and heard around, yet many are denying these Biblically prophesied events. We can see this in how our young people in the churches are more engaged in the things of this world. The Conference aimed to bring a word of warning to them that they should be ready as our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ will soon come and at the time they do not expect.

Be watchful — Jesus said in Matthew 24:42–43, “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.” It is a command to be vigilant and be awake for no one knows when is the time of the Lord’s coming. He illustrates a house owner who keeps on watching for he knows not when exactly a thief would come. Calvin says the word “watch” “denotes that uninterrupted attention which keeps our minds in full activity, and makes us pass through the world like pilgrims.”

Be faithful — Matthew 24:45 says, “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?” Faithfulness is a rare virtue nowadays more so among believers to our Lord. Having a wrong understanding of His Lordship, many are living licentiously without a sense of accountability towards our Saviour. “By these words he reminds them that they were not elevated to high rank for the purpose of indulging in ease, indolence, and pleasure; but that, the higher the rank of honor which they had obtained, the heavier was the burden which was laid on them; and therefore he declares that it is especially demanded from such persons that they exercise fidelity and wisdom.” (Calvin)

Be insightful — Believers must have accurate and deep understanding or perception regarding the coming of our Lord and the consequences if we are not ready. “Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.” (Matthew 24:46–47). When Christians are fully aware of the Lord’s return, we are given the wisdom to discern to work hard while there is still time. When the Lord comes again, believers are to be taken up together with Him. There is no more opportunity to serve Him once He will come.

There were 628 young people and facilitators who pre-registered but only 472 (407 are young people participants) from 18 host churches who actually attended the conference. Reasons given included the conflict of classes held on Saturdays and Sundays. Many of the facilitators reported that more and more young people today are not even sure of their salvation. This conference rather proves that many are still not yet ready!

We thank the Lord for the prayers and financial support of True Life Bible-Presbyterian Church through the Philippine Missions fund. We are grateful to our pastor, The Rev Dr Jeffrey Khoo, the session and members who supported this ministry. Thank God also for all the Filipino young people who are currently studying here in FEBC. They were very supportive in singing the hymns and a praise item. We thank God for those who facilitated the recording of the game. Special thanks to Biboy whom God had granted the gift of recording and technological processing of the messages. All Glory be to His Name!
