Dear Brethren and Friends,

Welcome to the Filipino Bible Fellowship!

We must thank the Lord for the privilege that He has given us to gather again physically to worship Him in spirit and in truth. It is the Lord’s will that His people should gather together to praise and honour Him. “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers” (Acts 2:41–42). We should encourage others to come and be strengthened to live holy lives for His glory. “Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching” (Hebrews 10:19–25). Let us also continue on studying His Word for this is the only way we can know His will for our lives!

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path (Psalm 109:105)

The word here refers to God’s Word and the psalmist describes it as the lamp unto my feet. There is a story behind this particular psalm. When a walled city in the Old Testament times was surrounded by enemies, no one could get out of the city gate. Since people inside needed supplies especially water, some cities dug tunnels from inside the city leading to a spring or source of water outside the city wall. In those days where there was no electricity, they had to enter into this dark tunnels with their lamps into order to get water. Upon coming back into the city, they had to hold the heavy clay jars on their heads with both hands. To give light they tie the lamp with their feet so that they will see the path back into the city and provide water to the thirsty souls waiting.

God’s Word is such a light as we journey in this dark and sinful world. There are many voices around calling for us to do many things. Attractive and tempting offers of lives of comfort and ease. These words bombard our eyes and ears every day of our lives causing many to detour and follow the world. But the ways of the world lead to destruction, point people away from God. Their ways provide only temporary joys and satisfactions but the end is eternal condemnation and judgment.

Calvin says, “In this verse the Psalmist testifies that the Divine Law was his schoolmaster and guide in leading a holy life. He thus, by his own example, prescribes the same rule to us all; and it is highly necessary to observe this rule; for while each of us follows what seems good in his own estimation, we become entangled in inextricable and frightful mazes. The more distinctly to understand his intention, it is to be noted, that the word of God is set in opposition to all human counsels. What the world judges right is often crooked and perverse in the judgment of God, who approves of no other manner of living, than that which is framed according to the rule of his law. It is also to be observed, that David could not have been guided by God's word, unless he had first renounced the wisdom of the flesh, for it is only when we are brought to do this, that we begin to be of a teachable disposition.”

This is where we need to study the Word of God, so that we may have the lamp unto our feet to show us the right way that leads to life. Let us know the will of God upon us so that we can be a blessing to many souls who are hungry and thirsty. The only way we can have light for our path is to have the Word of God guiding our every decision and we can only have this when we know it.

We have available online classes for you so that you can learn God’s Word and be used by God to teach the Word to others. I encourage you to sign up and invite others to do the same. This is offered for free, but do not take the subjects lightly so that you can learn much from them. The links of the recorded lectures will be sent to you via WhatsApp or Messenger. You have to click the link to watch and listen to the lectures. Please take it for credit, meaning you have to do the reading assignments and examination after the end of 12 weeks. These will be good for your spiritual growth and moreover you will be able to teach others also.

All you need to do is to register and get started with our online classes on September 6, 2021.

BEST for Laypastors!

The online courses offered were Ang Kinabuhi ni Cristo - 1 (Life of Christ - 1) – 2 credits and Homiletics – 1 credit. There were 8 students who enrolled this semester, 6 in Bukidnon (Pr Warly Sinonlay, Pastors Mark Albeza, Ritchie Añoza, Martinez Azores, Leonardo Ginella and Rogelio Superales), 1 in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental (Dn Andrew Adolacion) and 1 in Trinidad, Bohol (Pr Gayon). One dropped out (Ptr Ginella) due to personal reasons. Thank God for our brother Dr Einstine Opiso who invigilated the final examination in Bukidnon and Crisa Zagado in Gingoog. Pr Gayon did it on his own in Trinidad, Bohol. Please pray that more of the lay pastors in the Philippines will avail themselves to this training so that they may be equipped to labour in their respective churches.

Next semester we shall start on September 6, and end on November 26, 2021. The courses offered are Ang Kinabuhi ni Cristo - 2 (Life of Christ - 2) – 2 credits and Homiletics II – 1 credit. If you know some lay workers who are interested, please see contacts at the back of this weekly.

Bible Equipping School of Theology (BEST) provides an online undergraduate-level training for Filipino church workers and lay people who are interested in the study of the inspired, preserved and authoritative Word of God.

In the midst of theological schools capitulating to apostasy in this last days, Bible Equipping School of Theology stands for “the Word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Rev 1:9) and to “earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints” (Jud 1:3). BEST holds the Biblical, Reformed and Premillennial doctrines of the Christian faith and adheres to the Westminster Confession of Faith. BEST opposes the Satanic doctrines now sweeping over the Church: Roman Catholicism, charismaticism, liberalism, modernism, neo-evangelicalism, ecumenism, New Age mysticism etc.
