Dear Brethren and Friends,

Welcome to the Filipino Bible Fellowship!

Let us thank the Lord for the many opportunities He has opened for FilBF to serve Him. We must be thankful to God who choose to use us unworthy people to become His servants. To be counted as one of the servants of the Lord of lords and King of kings is far honourable than being employees of multi-million corporations. Our employment is eternal and our security is everlasting. We must see this truth and rejoice over His favour of enlisting us in His great work of saving souls. So be active in inviting others to come to the FilBF, it is a very rare privilege. Be prayerful and the Lord will lead you to a soul every week!

Pagbasa, Pag-ampo, Pagtubo - Cebuano RPG (Read, Pray and Grow)

It is our hearts desire to do as much as we can so that believers of the Lord Jesus Christ will grow stronger in their faith and those who are still in their unbelief may find salvation in Christ. We are thankful to the Lord for opening another privilege for us to reach out to our Cebuano - speaking countrymen with the Word of God. The door for us was opened when Miss Carol Lee, who is in-charge of the RPG, encouraged us to have our own Filipino translation of the RPG. We have tried one Tagalog issue on the Salvation Q & A and thank God it is already available in hard copies. Please use them or send them to your relatives and friends. Encourage them to read, pray and grow in the Lord.

However, with limited people to help us out with Tagalog translations it took us more than a year to prepare the translation just for one issue. Since majority of us in the FilBF are Cebuano-speaking, the Lord prompted us to focus first on Cebuano translation. The Lord is so gracious and merciful to us that though there were delays due to unforeseen and humanly uncontrollable circumstances, the Lord arranged that we could finally start this January-March, 2021 issue. Although, we are late in our first issue, still the Lord is very good to make this devotional available. Thank God, the next quarter is now in the printing press. We pray that this issue can reach the readers before time.

Let us all pray that the Lord will use this to minister to our countrymen in Visayas and Mindanao who are familiar with the Cebuano language. We do not know yet the impact of this work. We just entrust everything to the Lord that the resources, time and effort spent for this devotionals will not be in vain. We are currently printing 1,200 copies distributed in Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, Cebu and Bohol. Please inform me if any of you are coming from churches of other provinces.

The Biblical injunction we have in pursuing this ministry is from Hosea 4:6-7 which says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.” There are many professing Christians in churches who are ignorant and know not of the many teachings of the Bible. Many pastors are untrained while trained pastors go for bigger churches. Let us take our part of teaching them through this devotional. If we fail to do what the Lord has burdened us, in few years’ time, there will be fewer Bible-believing churches in the Philippines.

Every time I went back for some ministries in the Philippines, I always saw literatures from cults openly displayed in airports and seaports. The Lord laid this burden of doing what we are able to let the people know of the truth. Many in our country are deceived by cults or remain in the Roman Catholic Church out of ignorance. Why are they lacking knowledge? One answer is because we who know the truth lack the zeal to bring it to them. Cults and charismatics are zealous in their work deceived by worldly assurances of prosperity and wellness. Yet we who have knowledge from the very Word inspired and preserved by God for us are so slow to publish abroad this truth. Cebuano-speaking regions – blue colored

The Cebuano-speaking population in the Philippines has the largest native-language-speaking population in the Philippines with an estimate of 19.6 million (see map above). Other provinces in Mindanao, although using other dialects can understand Cebuano. So what is 1,200 copies to millions? Let us pray that these copies will fall into the hands of people who truly desire to read, pray and grow.

We do not need to argue much why we have to translate the English RPG to our dialect. We all know that majority of our countrymen, though we can speak a fair bit of English, we really lack the vocabulary to understand it. Belonging to an old-fashioned generation I remember fondly reading “TSS komiks” in my university days to relax my mind from the rigors of my studies. There was more understanding and connection than reading English. The best translation though is still in Tagalog, as all of the more than 108 million Filipinos can understand it. Please pray for the Lord to provide people who can help us with this project. Who knows, the Lord will pave the way for us to have the Tagalog translation next year! There is nothing impossible with God! We will pray so that when the Lord prompts us, we are ever ready to do it.
