Dear Brethren and Friends,
Welcome to the Filipino Bible Fellowship!
The FilBF is a unique ministry in some sense where we must make every effort to give the best we can with the teachings of God’s Word for we do not know how long our members will stay with us. They come and go! It’s a mixed feeling of joy when newcomers arrive and sadness when they leave us. What comforts us when they truly believe in the Lord Jesus Christ is the blessed assurance that we will still be seeing them again in heaven! What is so disheartening is when someone leaves who have not confessed Jesus as his Lord! It is our prayer that they will remember the words they have heard and believe!
We came to know Ruby Navarra in the year 2017. One of the students in the Bible Equipping Seminar and Training (BEST) referred to us her name. She is a sister of a pastor in the Philippines. We quickly contacted her and she came the next Sunday to the FilBF meeting at the Upper Room. She is a Filipino in everything except her citizenship, having a US passport and working in the US Navy! She happened to be assigned in a US Naval base here in Singapore.
She came to the FilBF as an expectant mother. She gave birth to Serene Joy later that year. I still remember visiting them in the hospital that very day of delivery. Soon, Serene (known as Sese) became the youngest and most favoured member of the FilBF! Everyone is encouraged by her smiles and acrobatic stunts after every worship services. We are thankful for the many times we held our FilBF family worship and prayer meetings at their place. Their kind hospitality and generousity meant much to us!
Now Ruby is expecting her second baby and we pray the Lord give good health and strength to both the mother and the baby especially as she has to travel several hours to US. We must also pray for her husband, Ian, whose papers for his US visa is still on process.
We thank God for these years that enlivened many hearts. On the 22nd of August they will be leaving us. Ruby is posted back in the US! Surely we will miss them but we trust that the Lord has always a good purpose for all these things. “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: … He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1,11).
Let us continue to pray for them for the Lord to provide them a Biblical, sound, fundamental and conservative church that will nurture them with the teaching of God’s Word! This is the foremost consideration that we should look into when our members move to another place. Her mother who is a Christian is worshipping in a Baptist church. We pray Ruby and the children will be taught “all things whatsoever” the Lord has commanded in His perfectly inspired and preserved Word.
We send them off with Psalm 127 that says, “Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep. Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.” And also the words of the hymn, “God be with you till we meet again, By His counsels guide, uphold you, with His sheep securely fold you, God be with you till we meet again. Till we meet, till we meet, till we meet at Jesus feet, Till we meet, till we meet, God be with you till we meet again.”
But this is the reality of any ministry here on this temporal earth. People will come and go, we also came into this ministry and must go also sooner or later! Nevertheless, while we are given the privilege and opportunity “to conquer sinners and comfort saints,” let us not wait on to be ministered but to minister without delay, and with “gusto” (enthusiasm)! There are still many others out there who have not heard the good news of salvation in Jesus. As soldiers of Christ, we should not delay but hastily obey the command of our Captain, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! – Bro Jose.
