Dear Brethren and Friends,

Welcome to the Filipino Bible Fellowship!

All praise and honour to God for great is His faithfulness! His unfailing love and care for His children should never be taken for granted. It is plain ingratitude and arrogance if we cannot praise God for His favour to the Filipinos who are most undeserving of His providential care!

As the Psalmist cannot hold but rejoice…“O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy; And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south. They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in. Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses. And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.” (Psalm 107:1–9).

The Lord brought into our midst more than a hundred people to rejoice with us and some to hear of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ last week. It was more than what we expected from God. I thank the Lord for giving the burden to our brethren to invite their friends. Our Lord is good to encourage them so that their friends may hear of the gospel and be saved.

Our Pastor’s message was very direct but all-encompassing enough to explain how a man can prepare himself to meet his God. That was a timely reminder not only to the unbelieving but even for us who profess to have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ is coming back soon that we need to be ready always.

I am thankful for the clear testimony of our sister Pearl and the daring praise item of the FilBF men! Our rejoicing was filled to the brim as the Lord brought into our midst the Filipino brethren from Gethsemane Filipino Fellowship, who came later to fellowship with us. So thankful to God to those who managed the preparation of the refreshments. Even to those who in one way or another were used by the Lord to help in order to give back the glory to God. —Bro Jose

Why the Need for Evangelism?

Bro Jude Thaddeus Gabales

Why do we evangelize? What is its purpose? Can we get something from evangelism?

Firstly, what is evangelism? Some churches or congregations define evangelism as a mission work. So an evangelist will be entitled as a missionary. This is a fitting title for one who is burdened to spread the gospel of salvation. The word evangelism comes from the Greek word which means “to bring good news”. The good news of salvation or the “Gospel” is thereby brought to the hearers of God’s Word so that they may repent of their sinful ways and confess Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

Let us be very clear that it is a command from the Lord Jesus for Christians to evangelize as written in Matthew 28:19-20. 19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”All Christians are given the instruction by Christ in the Great Commission to witness the Gospel to all parts of the world. Its purpose is to spread the good news of salvation through our Lord Jesus’ life in perfect obedience, His shedding of blood and death on the cross at Calvary, was buried, and on the third day He rose again and seated at the right hand of the Father, all for the purpose of a once-and-for-all justification of our sins leading to the salvation of many. Moreover in Romans 10:15b, it says, “… as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” This passage is taken from Isaiah 52:7 where the Apostle Paul deliberately changed the singular person preaching the good news into its plural form ‘them’ which means that the act of preaching the Gospel is not just to be done by one person, but by many. This also relates with Jesus’ Great Commission instructing Christians (‘ye’, which means ‘you’ in plural form) to teach all nations …to observe all things that our Lord has commanded us.

How do we evangelize? We pray and ask God for guidance and leading prior to conducting evangelism. The prayer also includes God moving the hearts of various recipients during evangelism. Though there is no such so-called proper process on how to evangelize, it is basic for us Christians to know the Gospel in our hearts and especially have truly experienced its miraculous powers having changed us from who we once were and unto a new creature of God, then we can share the Gospel of salvation through citing biblically: (a) why we need salvation; (b) how we can be saved; and (c) what we need to do to receive salvation. In the process of evangelism, we should let the Spirit of God guide us on what to say or do. That is why we pray before we go and evangelize. For we should “… take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.” Mark 13:11.

We cannot force the recipients to believe immediately. It is a process that the seed of the Gospel is planted in their hearts and we, as evangelists, shall follow up by contacting them and guiding them through invitations to different bible studies and worship service every Lord’s Day.

So what do we get from evangelism? Well, we do not engage in evangelism to satisfy our own selves nor for vainglory, but we do it for the glory of God. This is not the kind where we go to work and earn wages at the end of the day, but this is to continue the work of our Lord so that the prophecy will be fulfilled. Evangelism is for a divine purpose, not for earthly pleasures. It is to gather the Church in its fullness thereby hastening the return of the Lord Jesus and restoring Israel back unto God. If we truly know Christ; if we truly love the Lord; if we truly have that special relationship with Him; if we truly are born again, then we can truly hear His voice compelling us to follow His words unto life. May all of us have that burden to reach out to our fellow men, sharing good tidings of salvation and eternal life in Christ Jesus (Bro Jude is leading our FilBF Eband every after Lord’s Day morning worship service at 12:30 pm, please contact him for further information, 97501345).
