Dear Brethren and Friends,
Welcome to the Filipino Bible Fellowship!
Psalm 117:1–2 tells us, “O praise the LORD, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people. For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD.” This is a call for universal praise unto the Lord our God for His mercy and kindness.
Mercy, because He who is the holy and righteous Judge, has all the reasons and rights to condemn us who keep on sinning against Him. He can cause us to perish out of this earth immediately the moment we defy His laws. In fact, if we see the evils done in our country, the Philippines, such as idolatry, adultery, fornication, homosexuality, corruption and all kinds of sins. God is just to send a tsunami big enough to wipe our country from the world map. But, He did not do that to us, not because He closed His eyes over our wickedness or excuse us of our willful sinning, but because He is longsuffering towards us that we may repent of our sins and acknowledge Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. He did not hide our guilt under the carpet as if to gloss over the rotten deeds that we do but because the Lord Jesus Christ has offered free and total forgiveness to all who will come to Him and believe.
He is so kind because He does not just exercise His longsuffering to us but He with unfailing provisions keeps us afloat. He still pours upon the Filipinos His faithful material and even spiritual blessings, granting us food to survive and privileges of gospel witness in many parts of the Philippines. He still opens doors for many to hear the glad tidings of God’s free gift of salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ. This kindness is beyond compare for we who are not worthy are given the opportunity to receive the promises of forgiveness and life eternal by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
Unworthy as we are in the FilBF, we are thanking God for giving us a part in bringing the good news to as many countrymen we could reach in the Philippines. He paved the way for us to begin ministries to bring the good news according to the Scriptures. Nothing in us is special to be chosen as His instrument. We should just be thankful that by His gracious hand, He moves us to sow seeds of the gospel.
FilBF’s third year is a year where we receive more than what we deserve. As we can immediately notice, He provided for us a place where we can gather and worship Him here in Godhill. The Lord moved the heart of our Pastor, the Rev Dr Jeffrey Khoo to point us to Godhill as our new meeting place. This very blessed and fitting place to worship Him is alone worthy of much thanksgiving.
In August 7, 2018, the Lord led us through the encouragement of Pastor Robert Kluttz in Japan to start a work in Dakutan, Esperanza, Agusan del Sur. Pr Ronel Libertad answered the Lord’s call to become our missionary and is supported by the love gifts from Pastor Kluttz. Although we do not have a church there yet he keeps on doing the work of an evangelist in the area. Last May, we had our Vacation Bible School there and 46 children attended with 13 parents who came during the closing program’s Gospel Rally. May the Lord work in the hearts of those who have heard the Word of God. It is now to be supported fully by FilBF and to be named Esperanza Bible-Presbyterian Missions.
In October 28, 2018, the commemoration of the 16th Century Reformation, was the Lord’s Day where we commenced our witness in Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu in the Christian Bible Fellowship (CBF). The Lord started His work through our brothers Carlo and Jude. The CBF is now having every Lord’s Day a worship services/Bible study meetings. We thank the Lord for the children who came for the VBS and about half of them are now coming to CBF to attend the Sunday School. May the Lord continue to bless this ministry in Mactan Island.
The Lord’s rebuke to me signaled the work of Trinidad, Bohol to commence. In February 4, 2019, the Lord called Pr Rodolfo Gayon to start a work in my hometown. It is a heavily Roman Catholic community, which I myself did not have the faith to believe that such a work will thrive there. But the hand of the Lord is not shortened to reach the hardened hearts of the people there. Last May 2019 VBS, the first, as far as I know, saw 12 God-sent children and 4 parents to attend the Gospel Rally. The Trinidad Bible-Presbyterian Missions does not have worship meetings on Lord’s Day but in God’s time, He will grant this holy desire.
We are thankful that although we are not a rich fellowship, the Lord spared an amount where we can help the initial cost of a church building in New Camiling, Valencia City. Through the help of the True Life BPC and members, the church building was completed. The church is now using the premises for their Sunday worship, Wednesday prayer meetings, Bible studies, fellowships and other church activities including their recent Missions Conference.
The soul-winning team, Ambassadors for Christ, is still continuing its effort to help each other’s churches in reaching out to the people around their neighborhood. On Monday, July 22, the team will travel about an 8 hour trip to help Pr Ronnel evangelize the villages nearby his place in Esperanza, Agusan del Sur. Let us pray that the Lord will save souls to start as pioneering members of a church there. May the Lord prepare the hearts of the evangelists and the people to hear God’s Word. Please pray for their safety and protection.
Although a number of our members went back to Philippines for good, the Lord is bringing in new faces and let us pray they too will come to the saving knowledge of our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ. One of those who returned, Elmie Betacura, entered Bukidnon Fundamental Baptist Seminary (BFBS) to be trained as a Bible woman someday. Last January, we are also blessed with one who remained but entered into the Far Eastern Bible College (FEBC) in the person of Bro Decarlo Igot. We look forward for more of our members to be called by God to worship and glorify our Lord.
Because of many who returned to Philippines, we are getting fewer. Nevertheless, our Lord’s Day evangelism is still going on. We have been visiting Orchard Road and Dhoby Ghaut for our evangelism and recently as we moved to Goldhill Plaza, we now added Toa Payoh Town Park as one of our destinations for Sunday noon evangelism.
Let us give thanks and praise our Lord for His mercy and kindness. Let us invite as many as we can that they may hear of His free offer of salvation to all. The second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ is nearer than we think. Let them and let us prepare to meet our God! – Bro Jose
