Dear Brethren and Friends,

Welcome to the Filipino Bible Fellowship!

Let me share to you “My Chronicles” last week. Truly the Lord is good and faithful! If we just pause for a while and recall what had happened throughout the day, the past week, past month or even the past years, we can see the hand of God working in our lives and how He is caring for us. As the psalmist says, “Praise ye the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation. The works of the LORD are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein. His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever. He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD is gracious and full of compassion (Psalm 111:1–4).”

Praise the Lord for the privilege that He has given me to preach His word last Lord’s Day in True Life BPC English Service and the FilBF. It is only by God’s power and wisdom that sustained and enabled me to bring His Word to both congregations. Mine is nothing to Paul’s desire which we should imitate, “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak” (Ephesians 6:17–20).

I took the flight that night to Davao and proceeded to Bukidnon right away to catch up the Dedication Service of the church building of Dagumbaan Fundamental Baptist Church, as well as their Thanksgiving Service. I ministered God’s Word to them but I was greatly blessed by the testimonies of past pastors who served the Lord in that church. The dangers and struggles of these servants of God put my own to nothing and yet they continued to give their lives to the Lord! God indeed is glorified and His Word magnified!

Tuesday noon, was as I thought, a deviation from church activities because I was to meet my batch mates during my university days. But God is merciful and gracious to some of them who were devoted Roman Catholics then and now God opened their eyes to believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. So what used to be “nonsensical discussions and worldly partyings” 18 years ago became a spiritual exchange of declaring God’s goodness in each of our lives. Having left our profession and now in the Lord’s vocation, they asked me to share the Word of God. I praise the Lord, never did I expect that it would turn out that way!

After that lunch meeting, I have to travel for 3 hours to Gingoog City to catch up with our scheduled Bible Class for Every Christian (BCEC), this time a three night, 2 hours per night of preaching the Epistle of Paul to Titus (May 28–30, 6:30–8:30 pm). The theme of the study is “Sound Doctrine.” Because of some traffic jams, I arrived just a few minutes before the schedule and had to rush to the church. As there was a problem in Gingoog church few months back regarding the introduction of modern unbiblical methods in dealing with the congregation which I opposed and sent two strongly-worded letters to the pastor, I expected only a few to come. Although, the pastor repented and realized the error of that program, I believed some members are not in favour of my stand. I praise and thank the Lord that there were a number of them who arrived earlier than me. When I saw the pastor, God’s forgiveness and restoration just flowed through us to leave those unpleasant and trying times of the church and continue on in the work for the Lord. 2 Corinthians 1:3-5 describes, “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.”

On Wednesday, I went up with Dn Charles Kan to a mountainous village in Bal-ason where one of the VBS’s was conducted. Praise the Lord for the good response of the children. Parents came during the Gospel Rally where they watched the praise items of their children and most of all, heard the gospel preached. Thank God for the safe travel up and down the mountain. Bal-ason is estimated to be at 487.6 meters or 1,599.7 feet above sea level.

Thursday, was the start of another stations’ VBS in San Juan and Lunao. Although, less children came than last year because of the conflict of the Roman Catholic festivities of “Flores de Mayo” (Flowers of May, a month-long daily worship of Mary by the children), I was told that there were many who came the next day. This prompted us to plan the next VBS to be done earlier than the culminating activities of that festivity.

Friday morning, I had to be in the nearest airport early, which is an hour plus travel from Gingoog City to fly to Cebu. By God’s providence, though I bought my tickets about a month ago and Bro Carlo had no idea about my itinerary, the family decided to bury their mother on May 31, exactly as I have to pass by Cebu for my return trip back here in Singapore. Realizing this perfect arrangement of God, I asked permission from Pastor Jeffrey Khoo if I can minister the Home going service of his mother, to which Pastor agreed. That was my first experience of committing the dead to the ground and it was a good reflection for myself also that someday, I will be the one committed there.

While the Lord has graciously given me breath and strength to serve Him, I have to avail myself to God’s call and direction to labour for Him. It will not take long, time will just fly away and my privilege to do the task for His glory will be gone soon. How about you? Have you realized how short life is? Remember, only what is done for Christ will last forever! The riches and fame that this world offers will be gone. So while you have the opportunity, believe in the Lord Jesus and serve Him.

I arrived around 1 am on Saturday morning and though tired my spirit is rejoicing for what the Lord has allowed me to do that week. Why not pause for a moment and recall where and what did you do last week? Then see the hand of God carefully guiding you and even protecting you.—Bro Jose
