Dear Brethren and Friends,
Welcome to the Filipino Bible Fellowship!
Last week, the Lord gave me another opportunity to visit churches which by the grace of God the FilBF is involved. It is always a blessing to see them labouring for the Lord in spite of the difficulties of life they are facing. Given this privilege to be in Singapore, as blood-bought children of God, we have no reason to be lazy in pursuing after the things of Christ. “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” (Colossians 3:1–2).
This trip is “shooting two birds with one stone.” I mean, the Lord providentially arranged for a missions trip as well as a meeting of pastors and teachers of the upcoming VBS 2019 in the Philippines. Regarding the missions trip, two Elders from Calvary Tengah Bible-Presbyterian Church (Elder Lan and Elder Poh) went there to look for opportunities where the Lord will lead their church to help and cooperate. We visited few of the pastors who were under the Bible Equipping Seminar and Training (BEST). I thank God for giving me the time again to meet some of them in their own villages.
Chronologically, it was by God’s arrangement that the flight schedule have to pass via Cebu on March 19 (Monday) before going to Davao. While in Cebu, we took the opportunity to see the Christian Bible Fellowship’s rented place in Pusok, Lapu-lapu City, Cebu. We moved on to visit the Gethsemane Bible - Presbyterian Missions Church in Cebu City. In the same building, Elder Richard Tiu showed us also the Gethsemane Bible Institute (GBI). We also stopped at Gethsemane Care Ministry in Mandaue City, Cebu.
As we reached Mindanao, on Tuesday, we first had to make a visit to BJ Opiso (9 yrs old), the daughter of Dr Einstine Opiso who is our counterpart there in Bukidnon for our missions work. She is diagnosed with Lupus and is still in reverse isolation when we saw her. Please do pray for her recovery. After which, we headed to Partners’ Baptist Church outreaches on the hinterlands of Sinuda, Kitaotao, Bukidnon which is estimated at 590 meters or 1,935 feet above sea level (Mt Faber’s elevation is 105 meters or 344 feet). We had our lunch with Pastor and Mrs Cortez and some of his trained co-workers who were under the BEST program. We went to two areas under Pr Jonel Anton and Pastor Willy Latawan. Pr Anton gathers the children in the village waiting shed which is often distracted by people and motorcycles passing by since it is a public place. The adults gather in the village hall which sometimes is not available when a village meeting is scheduled on Sunday. There is a purchased small lot on a hillside and they are planning to build a meeting place especially for the children for this coming VBS. Pastor Latawan’s congregation temporarily gathers for worship in one of the member’s house which is very close to the highway. The meeting is disturbed by the loudness of big trucks passing by. One of the attendees is a “Datu” or chieftain of a tribe, who donated a lot where they can build a makeshift for their meetings and for children this coming VBS. The last visit was the New Camiling Fundamental Baptist Church. Praise the Lord for His goodness through the True Life Bible-Presbyterian Church.
Wednesday morning, the VBS meeting with pastors and VBS teachers was done in Central Mindanao University. Praise God many came and most of the issues were also clarified regarding their roles and schedules. Some of the VBS materials such as the art and crafts, and worksheets were distributed to those churches which will conduct their VBS’s this April. We finished the meeting and distribution around 3 pm, so we had time to visit a new work in Dangcagan, Bukidnon by one pastor under BEST. They are renting a living room of a house where they gather on Sundays. They are still looking for an appropriate lot where they can have their own meeting place.
Thursday was the trip back to Davao and back to Singapore. I thank the Lord for this privilege to see again the Lord’s work in the villages. They have their part, we have also to do our part! As members of the body of Christ, we have different functions but towards one goal and that is for the glory of our God! May the Lord help us to do our parts faithfully and zealously that when we come before Him, we all will hear just as our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ said in a parable in Matthew 25:21, “His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” – Bro Jose
