FAR EASTERN BIBLE COLLEGE

Far Eastern Bible College (FEBC) reopens with a day of prayer tomorrow, July 15. We thank the Lord for how he is using FEBC to educate and equip His students who have been called to full-time service. We thank the Lord for how He is also moving the laity to study His Word through our day/night classes as well as online courses. More and more are enjoying and experiencing the goodness of God’s Word carefully and faithfully expounded and applied. As they know more and more of the Bible and grounded in sound theology, they find themselves more and more useful in the church.

God blesses FEBC because FEBC glorifies God by taking a very high view of Scripture, upholding the 100% inspiration and 100% preservation of all the written words of God in the time-honoured Hebrew and Greek texts underlying the good old Authorised or King James Version (AV/KJV). For this reason, all faculty and students can sincerely and assuredly say like Peter, “Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.” (John 6:68, 69). Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27). What blessed confidence and comfort we can and do have from our good Lord and His good Word!

We can also be sure of this: The constant and continual assault against the Lord and His Word by liberals, neo-evangelicals and neo-deists today who deny the present perfection of the Scriptures is bound to fail. As the Lord had said, “It is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.” (Acts 9:5).

The Lord and His Word can never fall nor fail for they are forever infallible and inerrant. Unless the naysayers humble themselves before the all-powerful and promise-keeping God and repent of their deceitful handling of His Word through worldly philosophies and prideful critical methods, they shall be like those described by the Apostle Paul—“Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (2 Tim 3:7). “Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone; As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.” (Rom 9:32, 33). The Living Word and His Written Word which be our Cornerstone will continue to be a stumbling block to those who approach Him with worldly wisdom. Indeed we who approach the Word by the logic of faith shall never be ashamed. “For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.” (1 Cor 2:11–13).

It is not just FEBC that requires a clear and certain conviction and confession of a 100% perfect Bible without any mistake, True Life Bible-Presbyterian Church (TLBPC) also requires it. It is to God’s glory and for our own good that we believe in the Verbal Plenary Inspiration (VPI) and Verbal Plenary Preservation (VPP) of the Holy Scriptures—the originally inspired and providentially preserved Hebrew and Greek words on which the time-tested and time-honoured AV/KJV is based. And those who wish to serve as leaders and teachers must take the Dean Burgon oath, “I swear in the Name of the Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit that I believe ‘the Bible is none other than the voice of Him that sitteth upon the throne. Every book of it, every chapter of it, every verse of it, every word of it, every syllable of it, every letter of it, is direct utterance of the Most High. The Bible is none other than the Word of God, not some part of it more, some part of it less, but all alike the utterance of Him that sitteth upon the throne, faultless, unerring, supreme.’ So help me God, Amen.”

Bible College of East Africa

FEBC and TLBPC have been privileged to play a little part in helping the Bible College of East Africa (BCEA) with books for their library. Here is a thanksgiving note from BCEA’s Principal—the Rev Dr Mark Kim Kyung Soo:

“We praise God for the rapid and miraculous provision of books for the library in Rwanda. Dr. Jeffrey Khoo of the Far Eastern Bible College in Singapore, BCEA’s central ministry and education partner along with the Independent Board, graciously responded to the need with 59 boxes of books. Subsequent to this, Elder David Cho spearheaded a book drive in the United States, churches and individuals in Atlanta contributed 1,800 volumes, and Elder Cho’s younger brother purchased 200 books from a book sale at Biblical Theological Seminary. Through the network of a librarian who participated in the drive, seminaries contributed many books: New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (800), William Carey International University (WCIU) (6,000), and Biblical Theological Seminary (3,000). Used metal book shelves were also donated by WCIU. Finally, in response to a recommendation by a friend of this ministry, BCEA-Rwanda was also selected to receive contributions from US publishers, and a small but substantial shipment is expected to arrive on June 19th.

“We praise God for the dedication and faithfulness of all who participated in finding, purchasing, donating, collecting, packing, and shipping the books. Please be in prayer for the smooth and safe arrival of all the books from Singapore and the United States…. More importantly, teachers will need to instruct students on the need for discernment when navigating the books, just as is needed when confronting false teaching.

FEBC’s new Liteace goods van being put to good use in transporting the book boxes to the PO.

“We pray fervently that the ministries of BCEA will be used by the Lord for the progress of the gospel and for the expansion of His Kingdom. May He send called and faithful servants to study the Word. And may He guide capable and dedicated instructors to teach in the fear of the Lord. Thank you for your prayers and support. May the Lord continue to bless your work in Him.” (May 2019).

There is an African call to Singaporeans and FEBC graduates to serve at BCEA. They want FEBC-trained teachers. I had at one time (some time ago) thought of leaving Singapore to live and serve in Kenya/Tanzania, but the Lord did not allow me. He wants me to remain in Singapore and FEBC. But who knows what the future might hold? I pray more FEBCians would serve as missionaries to Kenya, Tanzania or Rwanda, to advance the Bible College movement in East Africa. BCEA is ready for you. Will you go? Be an Isaiah, “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.” (Isa 6:8). JK
