GOOD FRIDAY TESTIMONIES

Testimonies of catechumens from the Chinese service translated by Elder Tai Mern Yee

Jesus Crucified for Me

I grew up in an ordinary family. My parents worshipped “God in Heaven” and I followed the same tradition. When I was young, the village children and I saw adults coming to share the gospel on Sundays. I was curious and I went to listen to what was shared. From there, I knew the message of the God who loves the world and Jesus who was crucified on the Cross for me.

When I got married, I moved to Kuala Lumpur. The friends I got to know in Kuala Lumpur were Roman Catholics. They invited me to their church, but I declined as I had no peace in my heart. More than ten years later, I moved back to Kluang. My children were grown up, and were already working. I would follow my friends to Christian churches and we worshipped at the Herald Presbyterian Church, Kluang on Sundays. I was filled with peace and joy because I knew that Lord Jesus is the only true God. After a few months, I was baptised and became a member of Herald Presbyterian Church, Kluang.

Once I confessed the Lord, I began to attend Sunday School and I learnt to pray. When I was happy, I thanked the Lord for blessing my family. When I was sad, I pray for the Lord to enable me to go through the difficulty.

Thereafter, as my children were all working in Singapore, I decided to move in with them. I worshipped in a church in Singapore, and by the grace of God I am transferring to True Life Bible-Presbyterian Church. Thank God for helping me to find a true church to serve Him.

Thank God, Amen! Tan E

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)

No More Idols

I am an 85-year-old woman. From young, I worshipped idols as my parents and husband were all unbelievers. So, I didn’t expect that I would start going to church with my husband about nine years ago. In church, the pastor and church members patiently shared the gospel with me and prayed for me.

My knowledge of Jesus Christ as my Saviour did not happen overnight. Through a long and gradual process, I realized that I am a sinner, and I cannot cleanse my own sins with my own good works. From the Bible, I read that Jesus can save, so one day I asked Jesus to save me.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

Now that I believe in Jesus, I want to be baptized and I don’t worship idols anymore. Since Jesus came into my heart, there is joy and peace.

I have also prayed to Jesus to lessen the pain in my legs and make them strong. But even if I am not better, I will continue to believe in Jesus. Teh SG

“For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God” (1 Thessalonians 1:9)

No More Superstitious

I grew up in a family that worshipped idols, but I was an atheist. All the matters relating to worship of idols at home was left to my wife to handle.

Two years ago, I followed my daughter to Bangkok, Thailand to join the True Life BP Church camp, I heard the messages expounded by the pastor, and I wanted to learn about Lord Jesus, His life and works. When we came back, we attended church every Lord’s Day and slowly I accepted the Lord Jesus as my Saviour.

Once I received Lord Jesus into my heart, I had comfort in my heart, I was not superstitious and I had peace and joy.

Finally, I would like to be baptized and profess to be a Christian. Ong MH

“Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.” (Acts 17:22–23)

No More Taoist

I grew up in a very conservative family. We worshipped idols. I think we were Taoists. When I was young, I would go with my mother to various temples to worship. Each time, I would also ask for a peace amulet to bring me peace.

When I was married, my husband’s family are also idol worshippers, worshipping Guan Ying and Tua Pek Gong. Every first and fifteenth of the lunar month, I would have to offer fruits, and burn incense. During the seventh month (Ghost Festival), the offerings would extend to roast meats, roast ducks, not to mention a lot more incense. (Looking back, it was certainly polluting the environment.)

A number of years ago, I came to know about our Lord Jesus through friends who shared the gospel with me. I also went a number of times to church, and also removed the idols at home. However, I did not seriously seek to believe and serve Lord Jesus.

In 2017, I followed my daughter to Bangkok, Thailand to join the True Life BP Church Camp. This time, the Holy Spirit came into my heart, and I wanted the Lord Jesus to be my Saviour. After the camp, I came back to Singapore and continued to attend church to worship Him, listen to God’s Word and to understand that Jesus came to save us. Once I had the confidence and reassurance, my heart was comforted, I was not superstitious anymore and I felt my life had become more stable.

Finally, I decided to believe and serve Jesus, I would want to be baptised at the coming Easter, and to profess myself a Christian. Amen! Tan EL

“Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.” (Leviticus 26:1)

No More Catholic

I grew up in a Chinese family, and my parents were Buddhists.

My eldest brother and his wife brought me to a Roman Catholic Church to worship, and I was then baptised as a Catholic.

Many years later, in 1986, my daughter became a Christian, and she told me the difference between Roman Catholicism and Protestant Christianity. I joined her church (Life Bible-Presbyterian Church), and attended the Chinese Service and Sunday School. There I learnt the true teachings from the Bible, I realised that I was a sinner. I accepted the Lord Jesus as my personal Lord and Saviour, and was baptised and joined the church.

Now, I am worshipping at True Life Bible-Presbyterian Church, and I wish to be transferred to True Life, so that I can be with my daughter and grandchildren to learn and understand the truth, to love the Lord more, with joy and peace in my heart and strength and health in my body to serve the Lord. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:8–10)

Heavenly Father Saves

Unknowingly, it’s been three years since I joined True Life BPC. First of all, I would want to thank Heavenly Father, because by trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ I have become His child. Secondly, I want to thank God for my sister who brought me to True Life BPC. I remind myself that absolute trust and submission are conditions to be His child. Only children of the Heavenly Father can have the qualifications to enjoy His blessings. I have experienced, and I know we all have to go through dark clouds in our lives. But Heavenly Father says: “In the darkness of the thick clouds, I am with you.” With faith, I can see the face of my Heavenly Father in the storms. In all trials and tribulations, our heavenly Father has His plans and ends. “Heavenly Father! To know you and to know that you are eternally unchangeable, I want to thank you, forever! Amen!” Lee CH
