Worship Service

True Life Bible-Presbyterian Church holds its Worship Service every Lord’s Day, 10.30 am at the Regional Language Centre (RELC), 30 Orange Grove Road, Singapore 258352. The pulpit is jealously guarded, with only preachers of the same doctrinal persuasion, i.e. of the Reformed faith, taking a stand for biblical separation and standing squarely on the perfect inspiration and perfect preservation of Scripture, were invited to preach the Word. Pastor Jeffrey Khoo is the main preacher. Our invited preachers in 2016 were Rev Dr Mark Kim, Rev Lek Aik Wee, Pr Clement Chew and Dr Jose Lagapa.

The Chinese Worship Service holds its service every Lord’s Day at 10.30 am, Tanglin 1, RELC. Chinese ministers and preachers, namely, Rev Kelvin Wong, Pr Kelvin Lim, Pr Daniel Lim, Pr William Goh, Eld John Leong and FEBC students have been invited to speak to the Chinese congregation. Rev Dr Koa Keng Woo preaches every 4th week of the month and administers the Lord’s Supper.

Children’s Ministry

The children are ministered to each Lord’s Day through the Children’s Ministry. They join the Church Worship Service with the adults at 10.30 am and proceed to the 6th floor for the Children’s Worship after the offertory prayer.

Prayer Meeting

Prayer meetings are held every Friday evening at the RELC, and on the first Friday of each month, Family Worship cum Prayer Meeting is held at the homes of True Lifers. In keeping with the format of John Sung revival meetings, the study of God’s Word is led by Pastor Jeffrey Khoo and followed by a season of thanksgiving and testimonies, where the faith of members are fortified by hearing how the Lord has been good to the brethren. Prayer meeting has a regular attendance of about 90–100, with a good number of parents bringing their children with them to pray and seek the Lord’s blessing.

Sunday School

The Adults’ Sunday School is a key ministry that seeks to ground believers in the Word of God. After all, Christians are ‘people of the Book’; thus, it is fitting that adult believers especially be trained. Our Adult Bible Class is held from 9.15 am to 10.15 am. In 2016, Pr Clement Chew began a detailed study of Deuteronomy. On average, the attendance numbered 80, with a good mix of older and younger adults. The Session member overseeing the Adult Bible Class is Elder Joseph.

The Chinese Sunday School is conducted in Tanglin I from 9.15 am to 10 am, followed by a time of corporate prayer for the Church and fellow believers. In 2016, we completed an in depth study of the Westminster Confession of Faith Larger Catechism and began the series on Systematic Theology, seeking to ground believers in the fundamentals of the Christian faith. The lessons were taught by Bro Zhu Jianwei and Dn Tai Mern Yee. The Sunday School is attended by 15 to 20 members of the Chinese Service.

The Children’s and Teens’ Sunday School are led by Mrs Jemima Khoo, and ably assisted by a committed team of teachers and helpers. The classes are held on the 6th floor and Tanglin 2 from 9.15 am to 10.15 am. Ages of the students range from three to sixteen.

Catechism Class

Catechism class is held once a year for 12 weeks (January to March) for those who wish to be baptised, reaffirmed in their faith or join the Church as members. Basic doctrines of the Christian faith and of the Bible-Presbyterian Church are taught. In 2016, the English catechism class was conducted by Pastor Jeffrey Khoo and Dr Jose Lagapa (in Pastor’s absence), while the Chinese catechism class was taught by Dn Tai Mern Yee.

Evangelism

Door-to-door HDB flats’ evangelism was done at Tanglin Halt HDB Estate on every 3rd Sunday of the month with close to 30 (including children) coming each time to share the good news of salvation. From September 2016, the E-band returned to evangelise the Bukit Panjang HDB Estate as it has been five years since we left and new blocks have been added to the neighbourhood.

Missions and Outreaches

The Church supports missions in Australia (Rev Nguyen Gia Hien and Brisbane B-P Church and Vietnamese B-P Church, and Rev Errol Stone and Faith Presbyterian Church, Perth), Cambodia (Sun Sokha and Faith Krang Angkrang Church, Phnom Penh, and Tann Heng and Word of Life B-P Church, Siem Reap), China (Li YaHui and Mustard Seed B-P Church), Korea (Park Jung Il and Covenant B-P Church), Malaysia (Dr Wee Tiong Soon and Kemaman Life B-P Church), Myanmar (Thang No and New Life Orphanage in Yangon), Palestine/Bethlehem (Rev Danny Awad and Baraka B-P Church), Philippines (Mindanao Mission) and Africa (Missionary Bai Eun Young, and Bible College of East Africa in Kenya, and Rev Park Seung Kyu, and Bible College of East Africa and Chemchemi Kindergarten in Tanzania). This is done through regular financial support by the Church or designated love gifts by worshippers.

Choir Ministry

The Church Choir ministers to the congregation through music and presents an item on the first Sunday of every calendar month. Items are jointly presented with the Youth Choir on special occasions. The Church Choir also sings at vigil services and goes Christmas caroling every year to minister to and encourage brethren as well as bring the gospel message to unbelievers.

The Youth Choir renders a praise item on the fifth Sunday of the month. On special occasions, song presentations are jointly presented with the Church Choir. The average attendance for choir practices is 23.

The Chinese choir consists of young children, teenagers as well as the elderly. It aims to encourage the learning of good old fashioned hymns in Mandarin to praise our Lord and Saviour and to edify fellow believers. Practices take place every Lord’s Day in Tanglin 2.

Bible Study Groups

The Church has three foreign language Bible Study groups meeting on the Lord’s Day. The Indonesian and the Myanmar Bible Study groups are led by FEBC students as part of their ministry practicum and the Filipino Bible Study by Dr Jose Lagapa. The Bible Study is attended mainly by the domestic maids employed by Church members.

Since July 2016, the Filipino Bible Study has been reaching out to other Filipinos working in Singapore as well. This had led the group to have an additional meeting on the last Sunday of every month at 3 pm in the home of Dr Jose Lagapa. Since November 2016, the fellowship meeting was increased to twice a month. With effect from January 2017, the group is known as the Filipino Bible Fellowship (FilBF). Meetings are held every Sunday afternoon replacing the Bible Study on Sunday mornings.

Adults Fellowship

The Adults Fellowship (AF) meets every 2nd Saturday afternoon of the month at the homes of our brethren. The average attendance is about 20. In 2016, the book of Proverbs was studied under Pr Dennis Kabingue. The AF celebrated its 11th Anniversary Thanksgiving on February 27, 2016 at RELC with Pastor Jeffrey Khoo as speaker. The AF also gave to missions and needy brethren in the church.

Chinese Fellowship

The Chinese Fellowship meets bi-monthly on the third Saturday in the homes of brethren. The preaching of God’s Word is followed by a time of testimony and prayer and hearty fellowship around the dinner table.

In 2016 a series of messages on The Doctrine and Practice of Prayer was preached by Bro Zhu Jianwei, to equip members with the biblical understanding of prayer, and also to strengthen their prayer lives. The 6th Chinese Fellowship Anniversary Thanksgiving was held in November and a Gospel rally was organized, and about a hundred heard the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ shared by Pastor Jeffrey Khoo.

Family Bible Fellowship

The Family Bible Fellowship (FBF) is led by a committee comprising Bros Steve Chng, Eric Chin, Ng Choon Seng and Lam Pin Juh.

The theme verse of the FBF is from Psalm 127:1 “Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.” We are also focusing on Matthew 7:24 “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock” which focuses on the man who builds his house upon Christ as foundation for the family.

There were informal gatherings like a barbeque in March 2016. Dn Tai Mern Yee was the speaker.

Thank God for the increasing number of families joining our monthly meetings. We have about 60 members including children.

Ladies Fellowship

The Ladies Fellowship (LF) meets every 1st Wednesday evening of the month at 7.45 pm. We thank God for providing us with suitable meeting venues.

The theme for 2016 was “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23). Pr Joshua Yong taught us from the scriptures, on how Christians ought to deal with issues we may face while on earth so that we may lead holy lives to glorify our Heavenly Father. We were greatly blessed. The attendance is about 25 and it is so encouraging to see many young people coming to our meetings every month.

Following the exhortation first given by our beloved founding Pastor, the late Rev Timothy Tow, to give to missions, the LF has been giving to the Bible College of East Africa in Kenya. Thank God for preserving the LF and for our 12th Anniversary on February 3, 2016. The Lord’s messenger was Pastor Jeffrey Khoo.

Young Adults Fellowship

The Young Adults Fellowship (YAF) meets on the first, third and fifth Saturdays of the month at the home of Pastor as well as other YAFers. The YAF motto is “A Living Sacrifice” taken from Romans 12:1–2. The average attendance is about 20.

The theme for 2016 was “Growing in Holiness”. The young adults were blessed to have Pastor instruct us on the biblical books of “2 Peter” and “Titus”. Preacher Joshua Yong and Dr Jose Lagapa exhorted us on what it means to grow in holiness and our prayer life.

The YAF commemorated her 4th Anniversary Thanksgiving on October 15, 2016 at the RELC in praise of God’s goodness and faithfulness. Dr Jose Lagapa was the Lord’s messenger.

The YAF Retreat was held at the Resort Lautan Biru, Mersing from December 5 to 7, 2016. Pastor instructed the young adults on the theme “Put on the Whole Armour of God” (Ephesians 6:10–18).

Young People’s Fellowship

The Young People’s Fellowship (YPF) ministers to all the young people ranging from primary school to tertiary students. It meets every Saturday afternoon at Berean BPC with an average attendance of 40. The youths adopted the theme “Living Wisely in the Lord” for 2016.

Preacher Ko Ling Kang was the main speaker for the Bible study on Proverbs, where the youths studied what is the biblical perspective of true wisdom. Pastor led us through a Bible study of the book of Ecclesiastes, while Bros Samuel Goh and Samuel Joseph spoke on a series of messages on the theme “Be Wise in…”, pertaining to topics such as time, friends and recreation.

Besides studying God’s Word, the youths have activities such as combined Bible Study with brethren from Berean BPC every fourth week of the month, sports day, and cottage meetings at the homes of church members.

On March 19, 2016, the youths commemorated their 12th Anniversary and the Lord’s messenger was Pastor. Pastor was also the theme speaker at the Combined Youth Camp with Truth BPC Youth Fellowship, which was held at Mersing from December 26 to 30, 2016, on the topic “Obedience to God”.
